Heat wave

We have had 34 consecutive days over 100 degrees so far and Tuesday and Wednesday it was 110 & 109. I washed my car last night at 10 pm and it was still 98 degrees. By the time I finished my shirt was soaked from sweat.

The heat makes me want to stay inside instead of detail.

Drink lot of fluids, and try not to over do it. I remember the days when I was in San Antonio.........HOT!

Welcome to the life of an Arizonian. (is that a word?)

I woke up this morning and did a quick wash on mine. It was only 70 something this morning. Of course the sun came up and ruined everything.

Its been terrible this week here too. It rarely breaks past 101 or so but the humidity never drops past 60 or 70%. Yesterday it was 103 but the heat index was 118 once the humidity was figured in. I hate summer just as much as winter.

I wanted to get up and wash my truck this morning before work but I can't bring myself to get up at 4 am just for that.

I got sick last month from the heat and felt bad for a couple of days. I've learned my lesson since then and drink even if I don't feel thirsty. I was only outside 45 minutes but when your working it doesn't take long

Don't get us wrong, we're used to seeing hot temps during the Summer months (107 today - 34 consecutive days of 100+ --- the Summer of 1980 brought us 42 consecutive). But normally we will cool off into the 70s. This year we're seeing low temps in the mid to upper 80s (yesterday's low was @ 89). And we are without rain. It's been so hot, the rain would probably just create a gigantic steam bath.

Ya and I really have no right to tease because AZ heat is pretty dry and it does make a difference. The few times I have been to TX the humidity killed me. You just can't cool off. My mom is in OK and I hate the heat there too. 90 there is tougher than 110 here because of the humidity. Stay inside!!

I heard the same thing from someone that was visiting from AZ. He said it was the humidity that killed him. He visited when we were still in the 90s

We had some friends who lived in Chandler, AZ. While on vacation in the mountains of CO we exchanged weather tales. My personal take is that once the temps hit 99 here it is hot. 100, 101 and 102 are still just that hot. 105+ takes that up a notch and not having "cool" mornings and evenings just adds to the wear and tear. But I'm a native so being hot in the Summer isn't anything new.

I feel so bad for you guys! I was really hot today working and was sweating all day and it was only 85!

I used to love the heat but I think when you get old like me you cant tolerate it as well anymore! My brain actually feels like its swelling in high heat!:burn:

Seriously ,hose yourself down when it gets bad!:bigups

What I wouldn't give for 85, DC. I lived in AZ for a short time and now live in NC. I'll take 110 in AZ over 95 in NC any day. A few weeks ago I had to quit in the middle of a job because I started getting a headache and could feel myself getting weak. Fortunately the customer was understanding and agreed my health was more important than the car. I, too, have had the displeasure of pushing too hard and getting heat exhaustion/stroke and took days to recover.
I had to take a whole week off about 2 weeks ago because the high temps were between 100 and 105 with high humidity.

Everyone take care of yourselves.

Yes thats serious , didnt know it can take days to recover ....wow!

Im such a baby LOL It was 97 last year and where my job was I couldnt set my tent up so I re-scheduled ! I live near the coast and it rarely gets hot here .

My inland people I tell them not to call me in the summer!:D

Today was a nice day here in Indiana, I complain when it's 95 out so... that's just hot to me. For the past 2 weeks it has been 100+ with the humidity factored in. It has been a record hot summer here. Today was the first day that it was back in the mid 80s.

How well I understand! I "retired" from full time detailing a couple of years ago but still take care of 2-3 old customers' cars plus our own. I told them I would still take care of their rides but ONLY when the temps are below 80ºF. Here that is about a two month time frame if we're lucky. In short....."call me in January".

Mr. Clean- I have to agree with you. Once it gets to 100 it just feels hot and I don't notcie much of a difference but when it hit 109 & 110 I deffinently felt it more.

I played baseball last Saturday and it was 100 I think. I thought it felt pretty good compared to the higher heat we have had. Once we drop out of the 100s I think it will feel great, almost like winter.

When I am forced to work in the heat I carry salt with me and add it to what ever Im drinking. I use himalayan salt because it has retained all its natural minerals unlike regular salt that has been bleached and robbed of its mineral(thats what I read anyway!). Its a pink salt that I buy at my local healthfood stores. I also use it for cooking and just normal use .

I found this natural electrolite drink you can make yourself......Havent tried it myself but it looks great and proably healthier and cheaper than what you buy in stores.

"NATURAL SPORTS DRINK

1 quart good quality water
1/3 cup maple syrup or fresh sugar cane juice
1/4 teaspoon "The Original" Himalayan Crystal Salt
juice of one lemon, or more to taste

1. Mix all the ingredients together.
2. Refrigerate until you are ready to drink it."

Actually from what I read drinking tons of just water alone in the heat and when sweating you can upset your sodium balance even further and cause even death in extreem cases. So its very important to replace your minerals !

This salt is a little expensive compared to regular salt you buy but I think its worth it and lasts quite a while .

I heard about using salt before. Thanks for the tip and recipe DC! I'll look for that salt the next time I go to Whole Foods
