Headlight Restoration

I am planning on adding headlight restoration to my detailing service. It looks like it could be a pretty profitable value added service for my clients. Does anyone have a recommendation and expierience with a company that specializes in this? Also what fees are being charged for this service?

Thank you,

Greg

I have been doing this for well over 2 years right now......I have registered the domain www.headlightlensrestoral.com which I am working on daily to launch in Feb 2010.

I have made several Youtube videos of my work and the process involved on different vehicles, generally I charge between $55.00-$75.00 per lens.

Best recommendation would be to purchase a professional headlight restoration kit, like the one 3M makes or Meguiar's and a good quality automotive compressor.

Sheer curiosity, do you get a lot of work strictly for headlights ? I understand from a business perspective how much you charge, but are your customers actually willing to pay it ? I mean for $150.00 one could replace the lens with a brand new one from an auto parts store.... Or are you providing this service mostly to exotics and high end vehicles (not your average daily driver) ? This debate in my head keeps me from trying to seriously get into the headlight restoration department.

I don't really dig the kits myself as everyone here and us enthusiast generally have everything in the kit already. I've done a ton of these restores for friends and family, and all I ever use is some Meg's Unigrit, and then my rotary with Power Gloss, SIP, 106FA, then seal. I do recommend to my friends and such to do have them clear coated again. Which I'll do to mine when I paint my car this year...

I agree, the kits might be good for the average joe that wants to dot he work himself and doesn't have all the tools already but as a detailer you should have everything you need.

Over $500 for that?!?!?! I for sure would not recommend a kit like that. You could put one together just like that for a small fraction of that cost.

I apologize for the stupid question ... but how can you re-coat headlights to restore the UV protection?
