Headlight Restoration Question

Hey, guys.

Quick question for anyone who has experience with headlight restorations. I have my first one scheduled for later this week (1993 Civic with TERRIBLE headlight hazing) and I want to make sure I have the correct supplies. I'm receiving some 1200 and 2000 Megs Unigrit (Got a really good deal on it). Will the 1200 and 2000 be enough to get the job done, or do I need some 3000?

Thanks in advance.

That depends on your method for removing the sanding scratches. What will you be using for that? Will it be by hand or machine?

Definitely by machine. I have almost every polish from Menz, 3M and Megs, along with any pad you can think of.

I like to finish with the 3000 whenever using the 1200-2000 grit, then progressively polish (light cutting, polishing, finishing) with foam pads to restore the clarity.

In that case have at it. Finishing with 2000 will be fine as you do have the proper supplies to remove the scratches. 3000 is usually used to make removing the marks easier, but you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the feedback.

I may swing by my local CarQuest to see if that have any 3000 Unigrit, so to be on the safe side. :2thumbs:

M105 with a Orange LC will cut out the 2000 grit haze on headlights no problems. At least it did for me...

I use as low as 800 grit to start depending on how bad the lights are work up to 2000. M105 PFW, M105 4" LC flat orange, M205 white if I need to 85rd black, 3 coats 1000p. I use the PC by the way
