Headlight Restoration Drill

Hey guys - Any recommendations on a quality average priced drill for using the headlight restoration kit? It's the 3M kit. I remember hearing about a smaller sized buffer that works well for both headlight restoration and allows easier polishing with the tight spots on vehicles...

Comments are appreciated! ...

can't help you on the drill too much. my last craftsman 18v cordless drill was a very poor quality and didn't last very long at all. my best advice is saving up and getting a Griot's Garage Professional Random Orbital 3 Inch Polisher, absolutely great for headlights, tight spots on cars and motorcycles. you can usually utilize your standard compounds and polishes for the headlight correction. be sure to coat the headlight lenses after polishing, to help delay the fading again.( such as Meguiars Headlight Protectant 10 oz. or Create WHIPLASH on paint, plastics, and metal!.)

Perfect. Great advice and thank you! That's the polisher I was informed about... heard it's simply amazing. I'm gong to look into it now.

*Great tip on coating the lenses afterwards. THANKS! :yourrock

Thanks man..

I ordered the Meguiars DA Power System on my last purchase to use for the same reasons you are looking into. Hindsight being 20/20 I probably should have just saved up and got the GG 3" instead because it has more options specifically for putting interior brushes on.

griot's garage does make a 3" yellow scrubbing pad for interior detailing.they say it's good for carpets, fabric, rubber, leather, tile and even convertible tops.

If you are going to go for a drill I would suggest getting something that is high quality and will offer a dual purpose for around the house. As suggested on here, the Griot's Garage 3 Inch Polisher is a great tool (much easier to control then a drill) for doing headlight work, spot repair, tight confine polishing and more.

The GG 3" is a great tool, very versatile. Ive used both (drill and buffer) and hands down I would go with the GG 3", The torque of the drill was always messing me up. It would pull me closer to the paint and caused me on one occasion to scratch the paint. With the GG 3" my problems vanished, I am able to have much better control and get better results.I will be using it today, have a 01 Honda civic that hasn't seen wax since it left the dealership :passout: the headlights look horrible.

After all the talk I think it's the smartest move to go ahead and buy the GG 3" polisher! Thanks for the advice! :bigups
