HD Free, don't wate your money!

The Rainmaker
Having used it a half dozen times, I give up.

Doesn't clean, streaks/smears, difficult to remove entirely, leaves a haze that needs to be wiped many times and then isn't removed entirely.

I have had to go over the vehicle with either a QD or Poorboy's Spray & Wipe to end up with a decent finish.

My biggest regret is that I have enough concentrate to make 4 or 5 gallons of the finished product.

Hey, it could be operator trouble so if someone wants to trade for or buy a 64 oz. bottle of the HD Free Concentrate, PM me.

sorry to hear that dude.

i have the exact opposite experience with HD Free. I am not sure if we got different batches or whatever but for me, HD free is like a QD on steroids. I really like to use it between washes instead of a QD.

Can`t understand why your having such grief, you are using clean MF cloths and the dilution rate is right ?

I`d have it off you if you`d been in the U.K. because I found it very good, no problems at all.

I don't care for HD FREE myself. And i've tried too. However, HD TOTAL is

an excellent product. I keep a few bottles all over the shop; bathroom, office,

and even for the home. Oh yeah, it's great for vehicles too.

FWIW:

Fairly clean vehicles to start with. Pre-rinsed with a hose in the driveway or sprayed off at the DIY wash before using the HD Free.

3 oz. in a 32 oz. bottle of water as per the mixing instructions.

Lots of good, clean MF towels used during the process.

Same process and towels used with Poorboy's Spray & Wipe or any of several QDs I have. No problems with those products.

The solution is likely going to be in the hands of someone else if we get the shipping worked out.

It is good that others have had good luck with the HD Free, but it doesn't seem to be for me.

I think its pretty good stuff. Im still not a fan of waterless washing but it makes a great QD.

Your experience is just the opposite of mine.

The stuff didnt leave any streaks or smears and came off easily. It also leaves a great shine behind.

BTW what I do when the car is just ever so slightly dirty is I use it in a handheld pump sprayer and spray a large area ie: the hood and front fenders. I just run the towel over the car to remove the layer of dirt. Go around the whole car doing this but dont worry about buffing it off yet. Than once Im done I spray a lighter mist and buff everything off. When I say buff, its just like a QD. No extra strength or anything should be needed to remove it. Maybe your dilutions are slightly off. Im not sure.

Or you could have gotten a bad bottle. Theres always humidity and other environmental factors also.

No problems here. Works fantastic as a spray wax as well.

+1 on the HD TOTAL. Best APC I've ever used.

I have been using HD Free for a couple of months now, and like others It does exactly what it says it does for me. Could it be the method of application. I lightly spray a mircofiber towel and the panel, then I wipe in one direction flip the towel and wipe again in the other direction. I too use it many different ways. Hope this helps.

Rtom - add another + to the HD Total Love it

Have you tried the initial wipe with a damp MF and drying with a second dry towel?
Nope. I do use that method with rinseless washes such as ONR and DP RW&G, though.

My application has been with both a handheld pump sprayer and with a regular spray bottle.

I spray a section such as the roof, hood, deck, wipe that area with a MF

then wipe it again with a clean MF. After anywhere from 2 to 6 wipes, I will still have places where the product didn't get removed. At that point, I go to a QD or the S&W to finish the job. If I did the entire vehicle before the finish wipe, I'm not sure I could ever get it off. I did excuse my earlier lack of success as possibly being related to cool temps and/or high humidity. That has not been the case the past month.

Pretty close to my method of application.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but the product may very well have been given away for the cost of shipping. Just waiting for a response.

How much concentrate do you have left? I would be interested in taking it off your hands. I will just have to figure out how much it would cost to ship from your zip code to mine (Louisville, KY 40220).

My MF's don't pick up anything but dust unless they are damp. If you have a change of heart, try the damp first pass. I had trouble with the OptiClean I beta tested and that completely fixed it.
