Hazing/streaking on hood after 3-stepping...

OK, I just 3-stepped the entire car last night. I used 3M SMR, IHG and 2 coats of Blitz. After the final buff on the hood, I notice a little haze and vertical type swirls under the lighting. I can't really figure out what I have done wrong. I worked the SMR with the PC until it was almost gone and buffed it off and then applied the IHG and the Blitz. Could it be the Turtle Wax microfiber towels I am using to buff? The streaks look like they are in the same direction as I was buffing the products off with. Help a brotha out here. Thanks ;)

I dont think its the turtle Wax MF's you might have some deeper swirls that the SMR cant take car of. 3M SMR is not an abbrasive but filler and doesnt do much for bigger swirls use DACP or something of that sort then go over with SMR to get the ultra fine swirls out.

Try a Qd and see if it goes away. Did you get all of the IHG off? I have noticed it leaves quite a bit behind even after a final wipe. Are your tags still on the MF? Did the wax set up for long enough? Is the humidity high today in your area? Just brainstorming.

It could be the IHG, which some people have complained about streaking. I think this was due to either humidity (incomplete drying) or applying too much, but am not sure about that at all. Try running a search or two about how to use IHG in the best way. I think it was discussed sometime in the last few months...

3M SMR is mildly abrasive and also contains fillers. Megs DACP is like a more abrasive brother to it.

The next time you go from one step to another, try to take the time to check out your work first before proceeding to the next step (hey I know people forget sometimes ;)). Then you can catch yourself before you're done and hopefully be able to figure out what went wrong. At worst you'll have to start over again from SMR... Good luck!

and I bet two coats in quick succession would be more likely to do so. Wait a couple days and QD then see where you are.

Sounds like either products applied in the sun or too much product.

A quick wash and QD usually gets rid of the excess and makes it looks a lot better.

At the very worst, hit it with a paint cleaner and start over.

OK, I started over and applied SMR with the white polishing pad and then applied two coats of Blitz and it looked really good. I have QD'ed the hood a couple of times, mainly in the evening and the haziness seems to come back the day after. It doesn't really seem that the haze is the clearcoat, mainly just a layer of it on top of the paint. I always wait for the paint to cool before I do anything to the paint. Any suggestions on what could be going wrong?
