Having Troubles getting out swirls...

Hi Guys,



I am currently having some trouble getting out swirls in cars paint using a PC7424xp and HD Uno V4.



I have been able to reduce the swirls a lot but they are still very noticable under direct light. I wanted to get your guy's opinion on if i should be trying a different method.

Micro marring - get the black wool pads from 3D or at least the purple foamed wool to cut. Use less UNO. use orange to follow up. The MF pads are another option instead of wool, but the wool pads cut way better.



You are not creating enough heat with the XP. What size pads are you using?

I am using 5.5" pads.



If i am not creating enough heat with the xp, could it be from the two following things:



1. too much Uno (creating a barrier between the pad and the paint)

2. not applying enough pressure
 
I'd keep it simple first, less Uno and longer duration and see what happens. What kind of car is it?
 
Do you think that the paint is too soft or that my pad is too abrasive?



Thomas, since you are telling me to give a more aggressive pad combo, I would assume the paint is soft. Am I correct in stating this?
 
Neither - the clear is hard. As Dan suggested, first use less uno and work it longer. Put 2 small dots on the pad and spread it around a 1.5x1.5 area. Speed 6 and go at it real slow. Not too much pressure as the XP is not that potent. Let the plate spin.



On another note, just imagine taking a knife and scraping the top layer of a block of butter that just came out of the freezer. Next do the same to a block of butter that is room temperature. Which do you think gets leveled easier? What it means is that the clear is hard. That is why you can't level it easy.

One other thing I might mention is make sure you arent letting up pressure on your last few section passes. Sometimes I find on hard clears if you let up the pressure you get some micromarring from a clump of polish that comes loose. Slow passes, even pressure 10-12 lbs. Also I find the Megs MF, primed with Uno, then throw some 105 on it does serious correction, and priming it with Uno really helps with the 105 dusting.
