I had a customer call today, he is buying a new BMW and they were trying to sell him some type of interior/exterior treatment for the car that is supposed to protect it for up to a year from oxidation, some type of spray on for the interior and exterior?

Have any of you heard of this, do you know what it is? I think they are asking like $300 for it. :shocked

I told him to let me handle it, tell them to leave the car untouched cause I can't imagine what it could be they are using?

Well, I think its just talk the chances of a brand new BMW have noticable oxidation within a year is pretty slim. It's probably just a coat of wax hehe

The system is called Touch of Class, according to the BMW dealership it is supposed to last 5 years and the interior is more or less Scotchguard and according to some threads I read it is about $1800.

I can't find any info on the net about this product?

Many new car dealers are selling this package . What they forget to tell the customers is the car needs to be bought back every year during that 5 year period and be retreated .

Remember that undercoat system called Rusty Jones , its kind of like that . Pay a bunch of money get your car undercoated and body panels protected for life . Oh and you need to bring it back ever year so we can recoat and inspect it . Usually what happens is the customer forgets all about it and never goes back.

Your customer could get quite a few details for $1800 , probably enough to cover that 5 years.

Very interesting, almost a hidden or quiet thing to find. I can't believe that the dealerships are making a 5 year pledge.

As has been said a few times before and is the main intention of such a long warranty is that many people forget that they have such a warranty, thus these dealerships get few complaints.

I'm glad the dealership I detail at doesn't do anything stupid like this, or else I'd be on the edge of my seat to not tell customers.

I used to work for a detailer that used touch of class, no better than anything else on the market. I would compare them to chemical guys, or a smaller version of Auto Magic. Nothing special.

I'm sure that what you are saying is that when the body rust through after 5 years they don't honor the warranty because you didn't bring it back for the yearly inspection. Most of those "lifetime" things are like that; tire balance, alignment, etc. The tire place (in those cases) is banking on you forgetting you bought the lifetime, not having your paperwork with you, or never coming back to the same place twice (in the case of people who do no maintenance and only fix the car when they are stuck). I think I used to kill the guys at the Goodyear place when I would come in and ask for my free balance, rotation, and alignment, and nothing else. Of course, in retrospect, probably all I got out of it was the free rotation.
