Have any pros ever had a job when you did EVERYTHING you could and it still wasn't to your satisfaction?

The client was happy but I wasn't.

Sure have, I did a BMW 318 not too long ago and it still had scratches, but they were a little too deep to remove, so i did my best. He was over the moon but I wish the scratches would have came out lol.

As long as the customer is ok with it then I guess its ok.

That does happen. It drives me nuts! Mainly because I end up being there sometimes for longer than I have to nic-picking (spelling?) certain areas through out the car inside and out. I guess it's just something we have to deal with being maticulous detailers?:nixweiss At least the customer is very satisfied...the most important aspect of course.

PrinzII,

Every once in a while it may just be better to turn down a detailing job, especially when you know in advance that you don't think you are going to be happy with your own results.

Frank. There are certain jobs I will turn down but this was one we had no idea of what to expect until we saw it. In addition, this person drove 2 hrs to have my partner and I detail it.

But as everyone else has said, the customer was satisfied with the results. Just me being overly perfectionistic.

This is something that happens to every true profesional.

You will have to find a way around it to make your self happy.

Rember even though it"s your passion it's still a business.

Make the customer happy thats what counts.

My business doesn't open up till next month but I did a vinly repair for the father of one of my business partners. And it took me a long time to get the dye mixed right. I still wish I got it a little closer. His son told him how much time I spent on it and he said he didn't need to spend that much time on it. It looks great. I want to do more work on it. I'm too picky.

You asked a question and I gave you my answer. Sorry it did not sound like something you wanted to hear.

Frank: I wasn't being defensive at all. If you took it that way, I apologize.

Nothing wrong with a passion like that, QA will always be high and you'll have a constant stream of happy clients (you'll have to work on 'self' being happy with 'that's the best that could br done under the circumstances'

I wasn't entirely pleased with that Sonoma (in the click and brag forum) even though it looked 1000 times better than when I started. Obviously, I couldn't do anything about the deep bird bomb and tree sap etching but I am a detailer, not a painter.

As for Frank's point, if this hadn't been a regular customer who I've been cleaning cars for 11 years now, I probably would have turned down the job. When a regular asks a favor like that, I do it. I make it very clear up front what can and cannot be corrected, then I get to work. If it had been a new customer, I would have turned it down. They have no history with me and I'd hate to have them base their opinion of me on a vehicle that is never going to look that great.
