I have found this little helper on an Austrian detailing site. I think it is pretty useful, because it is soft, won't scratch anything, and makes the sides/wheels/roofs more accessible.
You have to attach it to the exhaust pipe, and the engine (or a compressor) inflates it. It has a 3-ton load rating and a blow-off valve to prevent overinflation.
And even two can be used, just to be on the safe side; when detailing wheelwells, and the wheels are removed.
