Have not slept well in 2 nights

We got 24+ inches of snow and I have a 17 year old with a Jeep...........

I did not allow him to drive the last 2 days as he is still a new driver. We took the Jeep to a parking lot Sunday night after the panther game and I let him see that 4wd does nothing on ice. We did some panic stops, showed him how to throttle off is he starts to loose the rear and how to brake without causing the ABS to kick in and if they do, how to stay on them for the fastest stop.

So he is out tonight for the first time in 16 degrees. Went about 8 blocks to watch the spurs play at a friends house (no school here tomorrow for testing and he's done with it already)

Thankfully I have the find my iphone app and he is there safe and sound.

Being a Dad is rough

Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better.

I did same with Stephen & Ryan, as far as parking lot Ice/Snow/skid practice.

I still get nervous....

Wow the memories. I recall my dad teaching me about winter driving. And it has served me well. " It's just like summer driving. You have your reaction times and distances down pat. You just slow everything down and relax.Take your time and you will get to where you are going. And always watch out for the other guy.

You know I told him, its others sliding into you I worry about more than you making a mistake. Hard to kids to grasp that.

If I had another behind him I swear I'd never make it. Getting 2 boys to 17 and 20 is some heavy lifting if you put yourself into it.

JSFM35X- Understand your concerns perfectly!

Easy for me to spend your money, but I'd throw some Ice Compound tires on that Jeep. I *still* find them [freakin'] incredible despite having run them every winter since forever. 4WD/AWD + Ice Tires = Peace of Mind, even it the combo doesn't really rewrite the laws of physics.

Ill look into the ice tires, his Jeep is a trail Hawk and came with some knoby tires. Perfect for a 17 year old and they make a racket on the highway. Thankfully he (I) does not spend too much time on the highway. The buzz or drone would kill me. he just increases the bass. Ahh its good to be young.

The Tahoe came with a set of those knobby things, and I hear you on the roadnoise! They looked really impressive, but were pretty useless in the winter (didn't like 'em in the summer either, hence my current Michelins). I'm running Blizzaks in the winter, and those are great for me, but there are even *better* options these days. Cheaper than an insurance deductible, and as you know "parents' peace of mind = priceless".
