Have 2 cars one has dog smell

So, I did a search and got some ideas but wanted to ask myself. Alot of my cars unfortunately come to me in pretty bad states, I do alot of preparation for auctions/sales not like the lucky peeps that get babied rides to get beautification. I'm always alittle more happy when I actually get a car that someone actually tried to take care of.

So one of my cars is a 05 Toyota Tacoma, what I thought would be a simple job from the exterior (no major swirls) and looking through the glass at a fairly clean interior I decided to hop inside and side what I needed to access. Well I was alarmed by a mild pet odor, then I searched for pet hair and I didn't see any until I looked in the cracks by the seat and I found some good build up of hair. So I did one truck in the past that I sweat the dog had to have been living in it, plus I don't think the owner cleaned the inside since it was new in 07. I tried hard to get rid of the smell and I was able to cover it up pretty good, and took maybe 50% of the smell away for good, but it just came back about a few days later.

Anyways, I need this odor gone, luckily it doesn't seem major. I've heard of tricks like using baking soda or vinegar. Even crumbled charcoal briquettes. Any other things that may not cost a fortune?

I can't recall the name of the company, but they have what is called an odor bomb. You set the can in the car and press release. It release a ton of good smelling odor in the car fabric etc. I think it should be done overnight. I will email back when I remember the name of the company, if you are interested.

Good luck. I recently had a car come to me that had been detailed by two other detailers...one had steam cleaned it, the other used an extractor and then odor bombed it and it still smelled like dog. I stripped every seat and panel that I could, shampooed it, pressure washed the trunk area, and then ozoned it and it still sort of smelled like a wet dog. If you find a solution PLEASE let me know!

Try an encapsulation chemical like foam dry 2x from Scotlabs. You can get it at most carpet cleaning stores.

Check underneath the carpet and look and see if the padding has stains on it.

Another chemical to use would be odorcide.

The pet dander is in the headliner, the seats and in the vents. You can get it to smell better.

I just cleaned some house carpets with pets in them and they were a lot of work.

Well I would consider this a mild dog smell, not extreme, it was definately definately present. Basically I cleaned just about every piece in it. I first used the soft brush attachment on my shop vac and vacumed all over the plastics I used an APC and sprayed down anything plastic, then used Mothers vinyl protectant afterwards. Cleaned all the glass thoroughly, then pulled the floor mats out and soaked them down with the hose and brushed it down with folex and let them hang dry. Vacumed all the carpets and seats, pulled out my Mr. Sticky (a lint roller brush) and pulled off any remaining dog hair. Then sprayed everything down with Folex and brushed everything, then used my shop vac to extract as much as possible. Then I sprayed it all down with Febreeze Auto, and it appears that the odor has left, however it may return, it's been about 1-2 days now.

I'm not sure what else you could do if you have pretty much stripped down everything, seems like it's caked on there.
