Has anyone ever used this vinyl and sticker removal tool?

It does THAT to the decals but doesn't harm paint? Rrrriiiiiigggghhhhht.

Yeah that's why I'm asking if anyone has ever used one. It looks like soft rubber, so maybe it grabs the sticker but is smooth and soft enough not to hurt the paint. I'd like to see one in action, it could be a huge time saver. But if it does damage, then it would be completely useless.

There are some good soft versions of that tool and some very hard, damaging versions as well. They are made of the same material as the pinstripe removal tools. this one just has more surface/contact area.

IIRC Wurth has one that works very well without damaging.

Here's the email I got back from them, I'm going to ask if there's any local distributors who can do a demo for me.

"Rich,

The eraser will not damage the paint in any way. We have tools in more than 80,000 body shops and in over 5,000 sign shops. Our average eraser sales per month is over 3000. We have been selling the tool and erasers for more than 11 years and to date we have not had a damage claim."

It's true! These tools are a staple in most body shops. They do work great, and yes, they will remove decals from a painted surface without harming the paint.

I've been using "3M Stripe Off Wheels" for ages. They are about $25 a pop and one wheel can do a whole van, depending on how old the stickers are. As long as you get the vehicle very clean beforehand, there is very little marring, about as much as you'd get from an aggressive clay.

Nice, does it work as quickly as this one?

I've never used the one you referenced, but the 3m makes childsplay of decals that aren't older than 5 years, ie dealer stickers take about 5 seconds to remove. Stuff that is 5-10 takes some work, and anything that's been on there longer than 10, you probably don't want to remove it anyway.

This tool is really very amazing. I have told to many of my friends to use it. It do not harm the paint. Lot of people worry about the removal of decal from the car. They tried different things and gain nothing. By using this tool we can easily remove the old vinyl decal very easily.

Dan, I use the Astro wheel, same as the 3M, get it from Autobody Toolmart , two wheels for $25, use them mainly on boats. The wheel says on the packaging to not use a 10,000 rpm grinder, has the limit of rpm on it.

It also states "not for use on lacquer paints", and I can understand why not, so no biggy.

3M eraser wheel part #03612 here. Also works good on road paint, paint exchange from parking lot or side of garage. This one is for hand held drills. (Nice when mobile w/o air)

How much adhesive do these eraser wheels leave behind? Would have been nice to have one today...just de-decaled this truck and another one is coming tomorrow.

Go to Ace Hardware, or where ever and get a pint or quart of xylene, and some chemical proof gloves, fastest way to remove left over adhesive from modern vinyl letters.

Much faster than "adhesive removers". Just use the gloves and wash the area with soap and water when done.

Doesn't work so well on decals, stripes that have been on for more than 5 or 6 years.

Keep in mind of the toxcity of xylene, so wear the gloves and have good ventilation when using.

I use Rapidtac adhesive remover. Super fast and effective. The adhesive turns to jelly and wipes right off.
