WHo here has noticed on other detailing forums, The so called pros are just posting more and more show and shines. Constalty bumping their own threads, just looking for some one to say good job. Seems like a new trend i am seing. on alot of other detailing forums.

Or post stuff that has nothing to do with detailing at all. They lack to participate in any thread discussions unless it someone giving them a that a boy.

The best is when you get in with the forum mods, these same people continue to break forum rules and other yet a person who post once in a while will get banned for a few days for minor infraction. I dont get.

I appreciate all the pros here that have been around the block, that post write ups of real world exspeirence, looking to better the industry. Those who are not just looking for a that a boy. It takes time, effort and many years to learn what you have, Yet you come to autopia and pass this gret information on.

Great job, and thank you

Don't really post on other detailing forums. I moderate one on offtopic.com and the vast majority of posts are detailers helping each other or people new to detailing.

Forums, large corporations, governments, it's all the same thing. Trust me, if you've never experienced it in a working environment, it's a whole lot more irritating than on a forum.

I can say this. when I first came to autopia, you had to be on your game for everything you posted, because if you didn't, everyone would jump all over you if you did something wrong. but now days, every single write up or thread is a "Great job" or "Nice turn around" no matter how much it sucks? where did all the toughness go? call me what you want, but that's how i got better?

What do you expect someone to say when someone posts pics showing paint corrections with selected shots? For example, "I could have done that with M105 in one step.

I actually agree. I like that this is a generally peaceful forum with good info, but the show and shines are in many ways, kind of useless now (not all, just a lot of them). Tons of people don't even post processes any more, just pics... then unless it is an outstanding thread it's just a few 'gg's, even if the detail looks kind of crummy. :x

Here's a thread I started a while back about a similar issue I had:

http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-details-before-after/129481-people-only-post-pictures-autopia.html

I think it would truly be a blessing if many of the Click N Braggers focused some of their efforts on content of detailing in the main forum sections instead of just posting their work on mass forums. I'd be willing to bet more people would comment on their threads and they'd get more views.

Prior to your inception here it was actually alot "tougher". People would slam others for any reason and threads would get locked/deleted all the time. (I've read many in the Moderator section). This place has definately settled down and matured to an even greater level. The drama is extremely minimal. There isn't another forum with this much talet in the business gathered in 1 place. Plus we have an enormous amount of senior member participating and helping newbies. This is the place to go for unbias information.

I prefer the show and shine posts instead of the edict type posts. Several people are posting from some very high chairs and _ANY_ questions are taken as insult and/or question of their superior skills.

At least the show and shines have shiny cars, I'll take shiny cars anyday over I'm smarter than you, don't question it.

Reminds me of these guys:

Ignignokt-and-Err-Y.gif

They come down from the moon only to push their agenda and think everyone is beneath them.

I like the down to earth style that has prevailed on this forum, what makes it great. Some example are from David F, Scottwax, Accumulator and even Kevin Brown.

The show in shines are good and can be used as a great way to learn. Autopia has some outstanding talent here, I read as much as i can.

I agree people need to toughen up and ask questions. Stop looking for that old that a boy, contribute to the tech side of the industry.

I know i do not have the knolwedge from tens of years of exspiernce, the Break down of what kinda chemichal make up the properties of everything. I do read and learn daily, hopefully i will have the skills of guys like Kevin Brown, David Fermai, bud. These guys a top notch just looking to get a pat on the back but to help the industy as a whole.

The situation is: we are on a public forum with really no limits on what can be posted in regards to detailing. Some people are here to soak up whatever they read, some to post only their work, some to share only their knowledge and try to help people understand what they might end up against. Think about those people who only do a detail or 2 a month to post, but sit on the forums for hours reading tons of information that they will probably never apply because they have already formed their own opinions anyway.

I myself try to share on large boards what I have experience-wise and objective information with because its valued by our customers. WAYYYYY too much hype and misinformation or just simple info repetition going on, which really dilutes the truth that much more.

Only lately able to slowly start typing small amounts of our work up, and frankly I have no problem with what other people do.

I do have problems with people stretching the truth to their customers, mimicking other people's marketing or descriptives in an attempt to get a "that a boy", and people lightly sneaking in their little shills in an attempt to get some sales. Obviously I wouldn't ever call this out unless it was grossly apparent or excessive but that's why Autopia exists. Some people detail because they love cars, some to get acceptance from car people, some people detail to feed their compulsion(myself) and to genuinely share their passion, some people detail simply to keep the lights on and a gazillion other reasons...Autopia accepts all of these people and allows them to do what they please.

To be honest, I wouldn't really concern yourself with it. Chances are you will be contributing twice as much as them so anything that people post(non photo-wise) only to "show off" may not as helpful anyway.

I look at it this way, everybody likes to get a pat on the back for their hard work. Pro and non pro. In fact, many customers of pros don't appreciate the hard work done on their cars as much as we do. So showing off your work is something I can appreciate. A little virtual car show is enjoyable. I don't take it too seriously and I rarely judge. I like looking at Ferraris and I love a well done 15 year old Toyota. It's our passion. Bring it on!
