How big are the spots? Do you have pictures you could post?
If the size of say a period ( . ), they may be fallout or some other contaminate. Then you may want to try claying and see if that does not remove them.
If they are large chips with rust you should review the details details details section and find the touch up article it is very good and should answer most of your questions. This information is also in DavidB's e-book.
I thought of that stuff but am hoping that I can find other ways to solve it. I'll be trying the clay bar first. If all else fails I may have to resort to such treatment.
Thanks for the input.

The car is a White 98 Honda Civic EX.
I know these cars have weak paint jobs but the finish besides this is perfect.
It sounds to me like he is referring to the tiny little rust spots caused by brake dust or something embedded into the paint. Clay should remove the majority of it, but some type of chemical cleaner should also be used to prevent the little bits the claybar leaves behind from rusting more.
I had to think for a minute when I saw this thread. I could have sworn I had delt with this thread before. It turned out that it was on another message board. Same topic and everything. lol I thought it was kind of funny.
I'm with puterbum. There may be some chemicals that are needed but clay is a pretty good route to go. I've had to deal with this problem on my own car and clay worked like a charm. :up Industrial Fall Out was the culprit in my case but I see alot of rail dust and overspray causing these problems too. The clay should take care of it but if it doesn't then look into chemicals that will help you.
On a side note, my car is a white Integra and I had that problem right away. The other thread that I was thinking of was also refering to problems on Honda or Acura models. I'm almost thinking it has something to do with either where they are made or how they are transported. :nixweiss
I have a friend that has a flat black Corvette. He brings me in about monthly to clean it. Its basically just a show car thankfully and it sits on his showroom at a local car audio store. I just had a guy in Phoenix contact me and he has 3 flat finish vehicles. 2 black Ferrari's and a Lamborghini. I hate even working on the Vette nonetheless a car worth triple with that finish. Do you guys have any secrets or suggestions on how to make it a little quicker when washing/cleaning a flat vehicle?
I know some companies (that factory paint) flat black finishes make the owners sign all types of releases because of the delicate nature of the finish. Any products that polish the surface (even cleaner waxes), have heavy oil content (most car soaps and waxes), or leave something behind (most car soaps) can impart a shine onto the surface.
For me personally, I just wash the cars with Dawn -t) and rinse clean.
