Has Anyone Detailed A Bmw 745i

Detailing NY

New member
I got a call from a customer today who wants me to detail is 2002 bmw 745i, i have not done one of these cars yet, so i don't know what it looks like. I have seen it only in pictures in a magazine. The owner wants me to clean the leather for him. Does anyone know what kind of leather is in this car? Is it soft leather, hard leather. I have the supplies needed, i just want to prepare myself for the customer as it can lead to bigger details with him

thanks

Brian:

I have not detailed a 745 yet but I have been in one. All the materials are top notch. The leather is very soft, like a business class airplane seat. There is extensive mix of material in there. A lot of aluminum, real wood trim and leather. It is a big car so be prepared for quite a long job. Let us now how it comes out to please. Good luck.

thanks for the heads up, it will be coming to me in about a week. i will take before and after and post them. what does that car go for?

About 70-80K:eek: . Personally, I would rather have the M5. 745 is growing on me but I still think it is a bit ugly. I am really interested to see how it comes out.

Ugly? I love the way they look.:D

I detaild a 750il last April, the il's are a bit longer than the i's but they're still big cars. The car is top notch they clean up very nicely, they're big cars but nice to work with. Good luck.

Not yet. One of my regulars ordered one and it should be in by the end of May. He has a 740iL now.

I've seen a couple of 745i's on the street around here (a BMW dealership is about 3 miles from me), and they have a very 'muscular' look to them.

The leather is soft, but the one I drove had huge perforations in the front seats (ventilated) as part of the luxury seating package. You'll probably have to be careful not to fill them up with conditioner.

I wipe the conditioner on the non-perforated sections first then move to the perforated parts so by then, the conditioner has spread enough on the towel so it won't fill the holes.

the one I saw did not have perforated leather and I think the leather that it comes with is absolute trash. I am 99% sure it is clear coated and it has the traditional rough grainy yucky texture. Why can't they put the M5 leather in that car! anyway, yea its like any traditional leather.

Al Boston, I love textured leather... :D especially the ones from BMW and Lexus! They’re deeply grained, so natural.... yet so soft. It’s much better than that completely smooth and shiny leather found in Mercedes or Infinitis that look clearcoated.

Brian, the interior is relatively simple to clean. Be prepared to see a huge LCD (?) screen in the middle and typical BMW "soft-touch" materials on the dash and doors. There is a lot of wood (either high-gloss or low-gloss, dark or light stained) and aluminum... and aluminum-colored plastic on the iDrive controller.
