harshest wheel cleaner and best wheel protectant

Hey guys. I just got into detailing and the first car that I'm trying to do is my dad's 2003 Odyssey. I got the carpet stains out and everything else is fine but the problem is that the wheels haven't been cleaned since the day the car was bought except for being at a local brushless car wash about once a year..:sadpace:

I was looking at Meguiars Wheel Brightener as the wheel cleaner and Zaino Z-CS as the seal.

What products would you guys recommend?

'harshest' cleaner isn't really the best way to look at it.....Most effective for your type of wheel might be a better approach.

Meg's Wheel Brightener can devour unfinished surfaces.

For clearcoated wheels, it's OK.

First find what type of finish is on the wheel, then research what products are safe and effective for it.

Hope that was of some help.....

I'm not sure that you want to jump to the harshest product.

I'd try some Eagle One A2Z.

As far as protection goes, you're going to get a lot of different answers. I can't really opine on it. I used Collinte 845 on my wheels about a week ago. through one washing I'm impressed.

On coated wheels - like the Honda, use Megs Wheel bright - my method - wheels cool, wash with soap/water, rinse, spray WB diluted 4:1, I use a wheel brush, or sponge, rinse, spay a diluted APC, wipe, rinse - why? APC's are alkalin, reverses the acid from WB. You shouldn't need WB if you clean and keep the waxed every few weeks. For protection, I use DG 111, then AW to keep them looking good. And, you'll find that just car wash will work after that.

I agree JuneBug, but I like DG 105 with AW.

megs WB shouldn't have to be used every time you wash your car (once they are clean, seal them and use car wash clean them), so unless you plan on using a whole gallon for business, i wouldn't buy it. the EO1 A2Z all wheel & tire cleaner works pretty well IME, and is one of the best OTC (or any for that matter) wheel & tire cleaners i've used...

P21s has a good reputation for cutting through grime and still being safe for the wheels. It might not be strong enough in your position, but it may be worth buying the small (500mL) kit?

Sealing the wheels is a good idea. Not sure what people think of Rejex or Poorboys wheel sealant, but I have heard of them. The Collinite is probably a good idea, I hear their stuff lasts a long time.
