"Harmful" tire dressing still around?

A while back, I read about certain tire dressings that would actually damage the tire (forgot the details).



Do tire dressings with these damaging ingredients still exist?



The rest of my family takes their car to the local hand car wash place, where they always apply tire dressing. While their tire dressing has always lasted surprisingly long, I'm a little worried whether it could be the "harmful" type tire dressing.



Should I be worried, or is there nothing to worry about these days?

I read your post on tire dressings.. could you be more specific as to what contents in the dressings we should be careful of in the form of cleaners? either in specific products (one step clean and polish tire products) or in the specific ingredients..

Try to avoid tire dressings that contain petroleum distillates.

So I guess there's no real way of knowing whether the tire dressing the local hand wash uses has petroleum distillates or not. If it was the harmful type and I asked, they'd reply "no" if they knew or not.
