Hand Sanitizer as a Tree Sap Remover?

Just saw this write up on how you can use hand sanitizer to remove tree sap:

You Can Use Hand Sanitizer To Remove Tree Sap From Your Car

What do you think fellas? Ok with proper oversight or all around bad idea?

Oh and never mind about how the writer (David Tracy) uses a paper towel without any sort of lubricant. But I do appreciate he warns the readers about the effects of alcohol on the clear.

The two best things you can use for removing tree sap are : Isopropyl alcohol and alcohol based hand sanitizer. They will both outperform any specialized tree sap remover you can buy.

All you have to do is saturate the spot of tree sap, give it about 30 secs to weaken it, then gently wipe with a microfiber. If any tree sap is left (generally there isn`t) simply repeat the process.

What is in hand sanitizer that makes this work? Is it just the alcohol? If so, why not just use alcohol?

i`m guessing maybe since it`s in gel form, it might be easier to apply without a runny mess compared to plain alcohol which is watery, allowing for a more controlled and precise application.

I carry both. On vertical surfaces I use alcohol. On horizontal ones I prefer the gel since it won`t run like alcohol so it`s easier to keep on the sap.
