Halogen Lights

I just picked up a halogen light from Menards (similar to Home Depot) and I was just wondering how I can spot my swirls with them. I know my trunk is cobwebbed filled but I can't see them.

I looked at a few other topics and people were using alot lower wattage than my light. It's 500 watts.

Some pics (sorry for the lighting)

i got mine from menards too...but chose the dual 500W halogens w/ tripod. i think it was $29 or so. to use the light, simply shine it directly over the area you are working and you'll see everything you never wanted to see on your paint's surface. :)

I wanted to get that but I took my mom so I could help her haul things she needed and she told me to just try the $9 one out first. You know how moms are. lol :o

Do you do it in complete darkess? I was trying it around 730-745ish and I couldn't see anything. Any specific angles or such?

Turning out the other lights should help. You'll just have to experiment with the illumination and viewing angles until you find the combo that shows the flaws. And you really have to do that for every section of the car.

Don't assume that a direct illumination of the car will work best (try weird angles), or that you need the light to be really close to the car (try having it a ways away too). Play around with it...suddenly you'll get everything right and you'll see those cobwebs.

I have 2 lights on stands, so I can have either A) One on either side of me (See it from both angles!) or one up high and one down low, depending on where I am working.

I love extension cords! LOL!
