I was making a video, and I got a couple of pretty scruffy trunks from old M6 BMWs to use as examples. One had been sitting outside for a long time, and had a large brake rotor rusting on top of it. :help: The other wasn't as far gone, but had serious issues.
Believe it or not, this is cleaned with IPA and some Quick Detailer...
Rough Cut - polished with GlossHaus Foundation I aggressive polish only on the top half. Most of the rotor marks came out.
A shot of the whole area done with all steps (GlossHaus Foundation I, Foundation II, Foundation III, Glaze and GlossHaus Perfect Carnauba wax). The pollen was coming down like rain, so I moved inside...
Window...
Another "rough cut" shot indoors
Full-process area shot - pretty amazing recovery:
There were spots that were etched so far down that I doubt wetsanding would even fix. If this were a real customer car, I'd consider trying to get additional optical flatness by wetsanding, but I can't imagine someone trying to recover paint this far gone!
Next up, the red BMW E24 M6 trunk. Not nearly as oxidized, but not good at all:
Swirls in the uncorrected but clean area:
Strip between the rough cut (Foundation I only) and the full-process area
This is the rough cut - huge improvement, lots more to go!
A 50/50 to compare the rough cut to no correction:
A 50/50 to compare fully corrected to no correction:
Fully corrected:
I forget sometimes how much fun you can have with single-stage paint!!
