Grit Guards

I ordered 2 grit guards and received them today, I went to Lowe's this afternoon and bought 2- 5 gallon buckets, my grit guards will only go a little over half way down the bucket, is this how it's supposed to be?, I was under the impression they went all the way to the bottom, will this affect anything?

The Lowes buckets don't work with grit guards, I made the same mistake about a year and a half ago. Looks like they haven't changed the design - they're still too tapered. Return those and get the orange ones at Home Depot, works perfectly. ;)

They should go all the way to the bottom, and as Jay said, make sure that they are not in upside down. The fins go down so the guards sit appx. 4 inches off the bottom of bucket.

I will confirm that the buckets are too small, return the ones you have and take a grit guard with you and test fit in the orange one. If a no go, but they should fit in the orange one, US Plastic has cheap buckets and there is a free shipping coupon you can use as well.

I ran into that problem too. All five gallon buckets are not created equal.

You and your ggs will have to take a road trip or two to your local hardware store(s) until you find the right size.

yea i knew they were too narrow, i was just wondering if it would affect anything, thanks tho guys, im gonna check out some hardware stores in the morning

My vote is for the 3 gal buckets from US Plastics. I find them a bunch easier to use, the 5-gal are just too deep for me (not to mention heavy when full!)

I normally only fill my bucket with 3 gallons anyways so maybe I should pick up some of the 3 gal buckets. I wish they had transparent ones.

And GG's fit perfectly in these?

Yes they do, at least the ones I bought a few years ago. At the time I compared the stated dimensions, which I haven't done tonight to see if anything has changed, which I doubt.

I was able to pick up the three gallon buckets at my local Lowes that fir the GG. They are clearish-white color and have a foam cover on the handle. I believe they were in the aisle with all the cleaning supplies.

Oh yeah...I think I admired those the last time I was there, translucent.

i'll definitely look into some of these things, and thanks for all the responses, this place is like a college for car freaks, thanks a million guys!

I was on the US Plastics site. Do you have a link or direction to the ship free coupon??

Also, since I have the Lowes buckets too (unfortunate that they aren't a little wider at the bottom) do any of the US Plastics buckets work? I'll check the measurements, but thought someone already had a model number figured out.

Thanks.

See ya. :wavey:
