Grit Guard Washboard Quick Review

I purchased three GG Washboards for each of my car wash buckets (paint-safe, rinse, and wheel/tire), and finally got to use them. I like them a lot, and have found my personal ideal setup for car washing (I think).

The Washboards are very solid when attached securely to a Grit Guard. I started with one GG and one Washboard in each of my buckets, and they served their purpose well: they make cleaning the wash mitt or tire cleaning tools much more ergonomic. But I still felt like the Washboard was too low in the buckets and not as ergonomic as they could be, forcing me to stoop lower than I felt I should have to and dunk my wash mitt and tire cleaning tools deep into the bucket to clean them. So, I put an additional Grit Guard in my tire and rinse buckets to raise the Washboard in the bucket (and increase debris protection), and it was just about perfect. Raising the Washboard to that height saves on the low back quite a bit, and makes cleaning mitts and tools very easy without the need to reach so deep into the bucket. And honestly, I think the paint-safe soap bucket could easily get away with just a GG and no Washboard (or neither at all). Given that lots of water is drawn from the paint soap bucket, the lower single GG and Washboard gave access to enough soapy water to finish a car without the need to make more soap. And there was very little debris in that bucket at the end of the wash as all the grit was in the wheel and rinse buckets (especially the tire bucket- it was loaded with dirt!).

One other thing- once soap bubbles are in each bucket, the color of the GGs in the buckets is just about impossible to see. Color coding the GGs is pretty pointless when trying to determine what bucket is for what purpose. So, I color coded my buckets using colored Gamma Seal rings and off-color buckets. I use a red Gamma Seal ring on the paint-safe soap bucket, a black Gamma Seal Ring on the tire bucket, and I use an off-color Home Depot bucket for my rinse bucket (no Gamma Seal ring needed on that one). It makes for quick identification of each bucket a snap, and keeps from using the wrong bucket and introducing debris into the washing process.

So to sum it up- it`s a great, relatively inexpensive product. I would still color code my buckets (not the GGs and Washboards), and use 2 GGs and a Washboard in both the tire and rinse buckets, and one GG and maybe one washboard in the paint-safe soap bucket (but just one GG and no Washboard would probably work just as well in that bucket).
