Griot's Paint Sealant

Does anybody have experience with Griot's Paint Sealant? I just picked up some and would like to know others' experience with it. Length of time to haze? Cure time? It also claims to possess swirl filling capability along with durability for year. If anybody has used the stuff, I'd like to hear your experience. Thanks.

I'd like to hear about any experiences with this stuff too....and with Griot's Glaze (gee, best yet would be a combination of the two).

My knee-jerk reaction has always been that I was so disappointed with their waxes that I'm not about to try other GG products along those lines, but that might be lousy reasoning.

Interesting how no one on Autopia has used the paint sealant.

How was your experience with their waxes? When I picked up their Paint Sealant at Detail Fest 5 two weeks ago, I also happened to snag their Best of Show Wax. I've heard mixed reviews on that and I would love to hear your experience on it as well.

My first-hand experience is only with their Best Of Show. Nothing nice to say about it really...not user-friendly for a liquid, OK looks but nothing special, doesn't last very long, doesn't release contamination readily, doesn't stay slick. Simply a ho-hum/borderline-yuck product IMO. My late father liked patronizing Griot's, and I went through a few bottles of the stuff (and could've had free LSP for life had I wanted to use it) before convincing him my other LSPs were better ("I dislike it so much I'd rather pay for something else!"), so it's not like I only used it once or twice.

But hey, that's just me and some people like it. I just don't know *why* :nixweiss For a mailorder liquid, I'd *MUCH* rather use Malm's.

A friend uses their paste and it never looks special to me. Guess that's not much of a comment, but I sure never thought I oughta try it instead of one of my usual LSPs based on how his vehicles look (and they usually look like they need redetailed to tell the truth...maybe it's not the wax ;) ). I do give GG props for adapting the "twist-up" dispenser idea, that they probably got from Autopia.

Sounds like you will be able to offer an opinion about the sealant, and I'l like to hear what *you* think of their BOS. Hey, it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same stuff :D

Remember, I am not a professional detailer!

I have used both the paint sealant and the best of show wax. The paint sealant is easy to use and provides good protection. Not the deepest shine in the world but it works. I use it on my daily drivers.

BOS provides a rock hard coating with really good shine. Doesn't last as long but that is why I don't use it on my daily drivers! Takes some getting used to when applying. You put to much on and you will have your work cut out for you getting it off! A PC with a wool pad won't touch dried BOS, it is that hard.

Best of each wax out there for their kind... maybe not. But is there really one best wax for every application? I don't think so.

Oh, I like the spray wax after a wash as well. Easy to use and does as claimed.

Well, I got them for free also, but you're making it sound like it's not even worth it if it's free. I'll just have to wait and see....:hmph:

Well, note how differently rdorman feels about it!

Heh heh, the BOS *is* the only wax I've ever given away. I gave my last full bottle to an in-law.

The detailer's version of an in-law joke, right?:chuckle:

I'll just have to try and keep it thin and see where it takes me.

The first couple of times I wanted to empty the bottle and fill it with C4 and set it off in Griot's office. Then, I learned to use it. :)

Not being a pro and never have tried to capture shine for pics, here is a single coat of BOS on my decades old paint job. Nothing else.

Regarding the Best of Show, I find if you put it on SPARINGLY with a D/A, and then hit each panel with either Speed Shine or Spray on Wax (or any detail spray really) before you remove it, it is pretty easy to remove. If you put it on too thick, you will have a rougher time than a night in jail getting it all off the surface.

I wouldn't really say there's a learning curve to BOS...IMO it's not like it's a finicky product and by the time you've done a few panels you'll have the hang of it. But then I seem say that about every LSP. I just found BOS to be less user-friendly than, say...Malm's or 845.

Note that I did maybe...what...a few dozen wax jobs with the stuff. A few bottles go a *long* way. (Note that I still had the dealership in those days.)

rdorman- Your car does look great (of course ;) ) but I never found BOS to look better than the other LSPs I use :nixweiss I can say that it's NOT the LSP for me on my Jag (my "evaluate the LSP" paint of choice), but then I'm really picky (weird?) about how I like that to look.

We all have our preferences so we can just agree to disagree on the BOS, but FWIW every time I bash it I'll try to remember to say something along the lines of "OTOH, rdorman loves the stuff". It's sure not like I'm :argue with you! I just like other stuff better (and I do put a big premium on how LSPs clean up when dirty too, something BOS just didn't wow me with).

BlackSunshine- Yeah, you did like the BOS for a while there, huh? You ever still use it?

termigator- Heh heh, well, actually my in-laws are OK :D I even gave the BOS recipient's mother my Volvo wagon! She uses 845 on it and if her son ever tried that stuff I bet he quit using the BOS ;)

All this talk about BOS makes me want to order up some Malm's. Seriously, it does! Nobody here seems to use that stuff....
