griot's garage products

Some of their stuff is pretty good, but I often wonder if they are just repackaging other suppliers' products. Does anyone else get that sense?

Fore example:

1. Their wheel cleaner looks and smells suspiciously like diluted Simple Green.

2. Their Spray Wax is absolutely AWESOME as a Wax-As-U-Dry pruduct, layers over a good sealant or carnuba...but it really reminds me of Duragloss AW.

3. Their nuba...well, have you ever tried Natty's Blue?

Anyone else notice these similarities?

i have some stuff on the way.....from what i have gathered the car wash, wheel cleaner, and speed shine are terrific products. their microfiber towels and brushes get pretty decent reviews too. most individuals on this board seem to purchase all of their cleaners/polishers/waxes from other vendors.

regards

Back in the day a *lot* of their products were indistinguishable from Meguair's, but that's not the case today.

AFAIK they make some stuff and relabel others...hard to say what falls into each category. E.g., their clay seems the same as Mother's but their shampoo is unique.

I'd bet my life that the Wheel Cleaner is *not* just diluted Simple Green.

Griot's products have been discussed in considerable depth, you might want to do the dreaded search and check out the varying opinions.

I *really* like their interior cleaner, it's basically the only one I use. Their leather treatments are OK but IMO nothing special...the Rejuvenator *is* a bit richer/different compared to most such products, but their regular leather treatment seems to be just another "smells like a luggage shop" leather dressing. Certainly nothing wrong with them and I can think of other products that I don't like as well.

It seems like some leathers just respond better/worse to some products. Griot's seems to work well on all my leather except the old Connolly stuff in the Jag. But FWIW next time I want to buy Sonus as I hear it does *not* impart that "luggage shop" smell; I want my Audis to smell like Audis, etc.

I love a lot of their products, especially the car shampoo. I dilute the wheel cleaner, and on sealed wheels, it does a great job. I don't use the polishes, so can't comment on them, but the Best of Show liquid wax does a decent job as a LSP, however a lot of other products look better to me and have a lot better durability.

A lot of the products seem to be gentle, which isn't necessarily a bad thing imo. One of the reasons I was going to try their engine detailing kit.

Not.

Thankfully the product carries the BBS approval. I'm positive Simple Green never could due to the issues with it.

OP, there are 97 very fresh threads on Griot's. Did you even bother to look?

I have a huge line of their products and they were probably one of the early ones I've used when I began detailing 6 years ago. I was amazed by what their products can do to the cars with their RO. I soon realized that the rotary would surpass it. I really like their car wash, their wheel cleaner, and I do like their speedshine as well.

I would say NB is better than their Carnuba Wax slickness wise and possibly wetness wise.

As for the other products there so many I don't remember off top of my head...

I use their products exclusively at the moment. I am happy with the results. Very easy and safe to use if you are a Newb.

I basically own every cleaner, polish, or wax that they have in the catalog. Any questions just shoot me a PM.

Cut the guy some slack he is brand new.

I LOVE the Speed Shine, Car Wash, Spray on Wax, and new Leather Care Spray. The V&R dressing is nice but really expensive and I actually prefer Sonus Total Eclipse. The Glass Cleaner is nice but nothing special. It is really cheap, though. The Interior Cleaner is awesome like Accumulator said and the Wheel Cleaner is my go-to along with P21S Gel.

Use on a regular basis:

Interior Cleaner

All weather dressing

Undercarriage Spray

Paint Prep

Window Cleaner

Not fond of BOS but I do like their paste wax.
