Griot's Garage 3" Random Orbital

Hi, I am a newbie in machine polishing and contemplating on buying a polisher. I am a student on a tight budget so I am looking at the GG3.

Does anybody have tried this and how does it perform?

Does it also include:

- lifetime warranty

- backing plate

- any pads?

if you are looking to buy your first DA, i highly recommend the GG6. if you purchase it from Griots right now, they have free shipping all through spring and not to mention they offer a lifetime warranty as well. if you buy the GG6, it comes standard with 6" DA backing plate and you can use 6.5" pads with it and i would also purchase both the 3.5" DA backing plate for use with 4" pads and 5" DA backing plate for use with 5.5" pads. if you don't have enough right now, save up and buy it and you'll be much happier in the long run. you won't regret it!

I run both the 6 and 3 inch GG polishers and love them both. The 3 inch isnt something you want to use as a primary polisher. Its more for getting into tight areas, wetsanding, headlight restorations, etc. Follow the advise in the above post and you wont go wrong.

I'd be interested to know how you can use this to wet sand. I tried some 6" wet sanding discs on my UDM and I found they just suction cupped to the paint, wore out in about 15 seconds, and didn't remove any of the scratches I was going for. Willing to try again if someone has tips here? I've been wet sanding my hands to death these days it seems...

3M makes some really good disks that work on these. I like to use the 3000 grit disks on the polisher as a final step before buffing and do the rougher paper by hand..Im not crazy about the idea of running 1500 by machine. I did a Ram not long ago and used 2 disks on the entire truck. Only thing to keep in mind is the 3M Hook It disks are the only ones that will work. Their Hook It 2 disks have a differant backing and wont work on the Griots.
