Griots G9

I’m looking forward to receiving mine, but I thought the reveal was tomorrow? But all the information is on the website?

What is the purpose of the G9? What does it accomplish that the G15 or G6 doesn`t?

Just visited the Griot`s website. Looks cool, if I was in the market for a 9 mm polisher, I would strongly consider it. My question is how does this fit in between the G15 and the G6? I guess time will tell. The G15 finishes down really well on soft paint with a DAT polish and the right pad. The G6 is perfect for burnishing work on every single paint. Does it fill a gap in the market? Is there a market for it to fill? Or is the G9 simply the next iteration of the intro Griot`s polisher?

Lastly, it looks like Griot`s killed the ergonomics.
 
I used their online web chat thing Friday to ask if they had intended to have the polisher page live on their site if it was supposed to be their big reveal Monday. They said that it was going to be announced Monday, but was available to order that day (Fri).

The GG9 replaces the GG6 in the lineup.

I’m excited to hear feedback of noise and vibration levels compared to the GG6. I can’t justify the cash for a long throw for my very low use; but if the ergonomics are the step up they appear to be with the GG9, I’ll very likely be selling my 3rd gen GG6 to switch to the GG9.

HF Chicago Electric or whatever it is is a much better buy that the GG6, with an upgraded power cord and grease, 5in pads, it is magic for the price. The G9 seems like a good in-between`er.

$150 price seems great compared to some other options like the Meguiar`s MT300. Some pretty cool features as well, could definitely see this being the new entry level benchmark, I`ll have to try this out!

I noticed that on the feature list, pretty unusual and interesting. Also interesting that Griot`s is betting on this becoming the standard form factor for an entry-level polisher. I`d love to see someone do this on a smaller machine, but I`ve been waiting for that forever.

I`m a little more puzzled as to why it comes with a 6" backing plate but they make a lot of noise about how you can fit it with the 5" backing plate system...why not sell it without the backing plate and you can choose? Or just supply it with the 5" backing plate instead, which unless I`ve misjudged things is what everyone wants these days, arguably evidenced by the Griot`s blurb about how it can be fitted to this machine. This part smacks of the Chinese mfr. insisting they take the backing plate with the machine.
 
As much as I love Griot`s, coming with the 6" backing plate does seem like a tiny cash grab to sell the 5" plates. I wonder if they`re sticking with 6" as standard to fool-proof it a bit for beginners?

Looks like they now have a second generation of the ventilated backing plates - wonder what the differences are?

Confirmed my coworker will buy my 3rd Gen GG6, for $40 out of pocket (after tax and all) I`ll be picking up the G9.
 
One other interesting backing plate note - If you read their updated page on the `HD 3" Backing Plate`, they specify it`s not recommended for the GG9. I`m assuming this is because it was designed specifically to pair with the counterweight in the GG6.
 
A little disappointed that this is the big reveal and not a nano polisher to rival the Ibrid as I was told at last years SEMA to look for a nano polisher this summer. With that being said, I`ll be picking up anyway.

Eh, we`re 2 months away from SEMA, maybe they are saving it for that.

While I`m pretty happy with my HF polisher for my limited use, looking at the pictures the GG9 seem to be far more ergonomic than my HF polisher. Even if it has the same amount of power, having a tool that is easier to hold and use would be work paying the difference in price.

Milwaukee had this feature on their rotary polishers back in the day and I loved it. :)


I don`t really see an issue with the included 6" backing plate size. A least it comes with one. The PCXP and GG6 have always come with a 6" plate and the MT300 doesn`t come with one at all. I like having 6" too as it`s great when working on larger vehicles with flatter panels.

For me, the only polishers / electric tools I’m buying from here out are cordless. My guess is many are coming. If they use the same tech Milwaukee / Dewalt use for batteries - 2 batteries and you’ll be good.

I would love to see a partnership between Milwaukee and Griot`s for an M18 based BOSS G15/G21 and an M12 based iBird alternative. Partnering would save so much in R&D, for either company.
 
Looks nice. Great features and if anything like the boss 15 it’ll be smooth and quiet. I too was hoping for a mini polisher or a coating.

I like the tidbit at the end from Nick, to keep an eye out for further innovations that touch every orbital they sell. I really hope they can bring the price down on the updates for the Boss polishers, especially considering all of the features the G9 has for the price of $150. It`s not expensive for manufacturers to put together affordable and quality 15 & 21mm options, the Chechnya S15 I`ve been working with is certainly proof of this, it`s been an awesome polisher. Would love to see the updated Boss G15 dip well below the current $365 pricing and carry over the new features of the G9.
