Griots 3" Buffer

Just purchased this unit from autopia, what's the biggest backing plate advisable for this unit ?? Haven't used yet. Trying to get it together to do my Harley.. Thanks for any suggestions on backing plates...

I never switched out the backing plate on my Griot's 3 inch. I just used the supplied backing plate and use the 3 inch pads.

If I need to move up to a 4 inch pad I have a dedicated Porter Cable set up for that.

Stay with the 3 in plate. It barely has enough power to run 3 in pads, let alone something bigger. Not knocking the machine because it does serve the purpose, but speeds under 5 are useless even with small pads.

I mainly use the GG3 to apply thin layers of wax with 3" pads. If I am going to do correcting ill put a 3" or 4" on my PC or GG6

Sounds good everybody's in-put. When I'm ready for my truck I'll get the 6" buffer.. Thanks everybody. I thought maybe you could put a 4" backing.. Thanks..

The backing plate on the 3" machine is a smaller thread size then a regular da and not interchangeable. Adapters could be used but as others have said it can't really handle a larger plate.

my 3" gg handles the same standard size da backing plate threads as my 6" gg. i did change my original 3" gg backing plate to a more flexible lc 3". thought it helped some with my megs 3" microfiber pads.
