Green Pads from LC

I just wanted to post an FYI for any of you who may be thinking about ordering or have ordered the latest Green Polishing pads from LC.

A few weeks ago I reordered some CCS 6.5 inch Green Polishing/Finishing Pad - LC-78-34650DA.

I also ordered the CCS 6.5 inch Green Cutting Pad - LC-78-Coarse.

However, as I worked the other day I reached for a new Coarse pad and as I went to open it, I noticed it simply had the same product code as the Finishing Pad. I compared the two and found that the finishing pads' cell structure was tighter, the green was more minty, and the packaging said Finishing on it. But, I wanted to be sure.

I contacted Autogeek to inquire about whether or not I had indeed received the correct pads. They confirmed it in a phone call and then an email. The ones that read FINISHING are indeed what they read and the COARSE version only has the product code. The new batch of COARSE pads will soon ship with the corect packaging, but I guess they produced these before the FINISHING version and wanted to use up all of the packaging first. If you do end up buying the two versions, you may want to label which is which because the colors are SUPER similar.

In case I confused you, here's the email from Penny at AG....they are always very helpful:

"Hi David

I can definitely see why you are confused. Hopefully, this will help. The ones that are the finishing pads should actually say that right below the part number. Also, that part number with has CCS on the end. The coarse ones will just have the part number underneath they say Patent Pending Worldwide and Made In USA. The next round will have the part number that says coarse in the description.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Best Regards

Penny

Inquiry: I was checking my order the other day and I noticed

that I have 6 LC-7834650DA green polishing/finishing pads. 3 of them say this exactly on the plastic and the other 3 only have the part number. I didn't get any that say: LC-78-COARSE. The three with only the part number do seem to have larger foam pores, but ,again, does not say COARSE on the packaging. Can you help me figure this out?"

Been that way for a while.

I have a pair os green CCS pads, 5" and 3.5-4". How can I tell if it is the more "coarse" version or "fine" version. The composition of mine is much more porous than my white pads.

I don't know, I know there are two green foams and we have had this discussion several times about which is which and where they come from, which is the "German" foam, etc.

EDIT: Here you go: http://www.autopia.org/forum/machine-polishing/109585-pads-more-aggressive-white-green.html

I have both green pads now. The AG green pad is softer than a white pad but not as soft as a black one. It has a very similar porosity pattern as the white and black. I have not had a chance to use it. It may be useful on softer paints where white is too much.

The LC green is much more open celled and compresses easily too. When used it takes a set (restores after resting for a while) more than the other type foam.

I am not starting a new thread to discuss an old topic or debate which has more cut, etc. I just wanted to inform LC pad purchasers that they need to "read the fine print" before they rip open the packaging to their new green pads. Two different pads come in similar packaging and are labeled with the same product number. The two pads are nearly identical in color, and the only difference in the packaging is that underneath the identical product codes is that one has "Finishing/Polishing" while the other has "Patent Pending Worldwide and Made In USA".

So if you want to know which one(s) you have you can either carefully inspect them for the size of the cell openings or you need to carefully read the label on the packaging before opening them.

Coarse I would suspect. Also, the coarse pads are a little more washed out green color than the finishing pads which have more of a Spearmint Gum green color. (Not that my color description it helps much :o)

Yeah, I know, man, I have so many pads from so many different places...it's bad enough that the Edge colors are backwards from most (not that I've even used my Edge pads yet  ) and that the American Buffing pads differ from the LC and from the Meg's...and there's two greens...on top of that sometimes different resellers characterize the same foam differently :(

Pretty cool that the new DD pads have the use stenciled on the velcro (for as long as it remains legible)

Hehe. I know it's nuts. I have luckily stuck with LC, CCS, or Sonus for this long except my wool. But If I dip into the pool of Meguiar pads, I feel like I am going to need a training session. Thank goodnes I'm not color blind.;)

I haven't done it lately, but I used to mark the outside of the pad for which product was on it, maybe now I'll have to do it for which cut it is.:think2
