Great Products Discontinued?

Last weekend I had a chance to drag out and use some old products from my stash. Hadn't used 'em in a long while and was blown away all over again. The first product was FinishKare FX100. Nothing, nothing blings up wheels like this stuff and only a tiny amount is necessary. Still have about 3/4 of a bottle left. The second was Long Haul Truck Degreaser. Used it to prep for OC2. This is the best APC ever! It really is a shame that neither product is available any longer. I remember buying out the stock of the degreaser at Pep Boys for $2 each when they closed out. Thought it might make an interesting thread. What products, in your opinion, never got the love they deserved and ended up going the way of the dodo bird?

I wouldn't say they didn't get the love they deserved; AFAIK FX100 went away because a crucial ingredient became unavailable, and M16 (which is still out there if you really want it) fell victim to more stringent VOC regulations. But whatever the reason, yeah, some good stuff is off the shelf for practical purposes.

I kinda miss Einman Fabrik's Clear Pearl QD, though GG's SpeedShine is an OK substitute.

I will really miss UPP Spray Sealant though, it was great for the exterior trim on UPPed cars. Still have about a liter of it, when I run out I'll probably just switch the S8 over to FK1000P and leave UPP behind completely.

Too bad the "Smart"-type clays ran afoul of patent regs, I really like that stuff (I have a lifetime supply stashed away :D ).

I miss the napless suede-style MFs that were sold under the "Blue Maxx" label. Subtly different from other such MFs I've tried.

I miss the double-ended foam swabs from Griot's, though supposedly Barry is gonna stock them (still waiting, pal.... ;) ).

And I *REALLY* miss the BHBs that Griot's used to sell! The ones they stock these days aren't even close to comparing. I'm gonna be seriously bummed when my current pair wear to the point of retirement.

One of these days I'll be saying that I miss Meguiar's #5 New Car Glaze...keep expecting them to discontinue it.

What else do people miss? I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

Meguiars # 16

Agree 100%

Really like their detail brush (with the sliding lock to adjust the firmness of the brush) and their supreme shine terry cloth towels, which are great for wheels.

I liked their entire line of brushes (Meg's) -- my wheel face brush and tire brush are ~7 years old now (bought in 2005) and both still look practically like new even after hundreds of scrubbing cycles. I also use their wide "versa-angle" wash brush as a snow broom in the winter -- makes really quick work of pushing big chunks off my truck's tonneau cover and windshield using the telescoping handle.

Wish they'd bring them back in the US, I think you can still get them elsewhere.

Another one that seems to be a lot less common these days is the old Simichrome metal polish; that was (is, you can still find it online in a few places) some great stuff. Used to be you could get it at hardware stores and motorcycle shops.

I liked Pinnacle Paste Glaz..... It was just something special about it... But I got a jar still wrapped in plastic. I hate to open it up and use it. It was replaced by Liquid Soveran. They claim they could put more polymers and waxes in LS....

MDRX8- That reminds me, I used to be quite fond of Pinnacle's Creme Glaz, still have a few bottles of it. Wonder how similar (or not) it is to the LS

Clear Pearl...went through a large bottle back in the day, then couldn't get anymore. Great qd on a wax finish. IIRC, it had a sort of prismatic effect after cure. Very cool! M16 shows up on eBay every once in a while...think its still available in the UK. Have a few of those megs brushes as well. Agree, they hold up very well.

Menerza High Gloss Acrylic Shield. I don't know if they sell it under a different name now or what but it really looked good over the Klasse twins, especially on silver.

Taken from a website: When I launched Pinnacle in 1992, I started with Souveran Paste Wax for dark color vehicles and Paste Glaz Paste Wax for light color vehicles. In layman's terms, Paste Glaze contained a high polymer content for a brighter shine which compliments light colors while Souveran used wetting oils to increase the carnauba's natural jetting factor or darkening characteristic. Over time we found that we could put more polymers in a liquid product. The amount of wax in Paste Glaz was actually inhibiting the amount of shine we could produce. Liquid Souveran was introduced to compliment white, silver, grey, beige, light yellow and light blue finishes. It contains a base of Brazilian Ivory Carnauba for transparency but is packed with highly reflective, crystalline polymers.

Liquid Souveran produces a mirror-like shine that can be layered in multiple coats without any discoloration or yellowing. In 2004, we retired Paste Glaz Paste Wax as Liquid Souveran really surpassed it in shine. "

What's even more discouraging then a product not being around any longer, is a company who sells them. I miss the days of CMA and Danase.

Yeah, hope Bob's doing well.

Speaking of MIA vendors, I miss Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories. There was a company called Imparts too, used to buy some of my Meguiar's stuff from them now and then.
