Grainy paint texture on new cars

I've been noticing a fair number of new cars coming to me with a grainy look in the paint/clear...obviously I'm not talking about the normal orange peel. This week I had a couple new cars (Tahoe and BMW) with the "grainy" look. It think it is simply the result of spraying with no sanding or buffing. I seem to notice it a lot more now that I hung a dozen 15 watt halogen bulbs (basically, little sharp round lights)...the the reflection of the light just looks blury, and depending on how you focus on the paint, you can actually see the grainy texture of the paint. Aggressive polishing with a foam pad seems to help, but hitting it with a wool pad really seem to clean it up and the reflection of the lights suddenly become clear and sharp.

Anyone else notice an increase in this occurence on new paints?

"Orange peel". My '82 Corvette had a significant amount of orange peel after the re-paint (around 10 years ago). I took it to my body guy and he wetsanded and polished the whole car... looks like a new paint job, very nice!
