Got my Sponges

I just recieved my sponges from autosport today http://www.autosportcatalog.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=170. (I also recieved 3 of my glazes)

The first thing I noticed is how the sponge is cut. I'm going to be cleaning with the inside portion of the sponge. I can look on the edge of the sponge and feel how soft it is. The inside of the sponge doesn't look soft. I may have to order a full, uncut sponge to see what they look and feel like.

First thing I did was throw the sponges in a bucket and work them in some water. I could not feel any sand in them or see any sand coming out. I then grabbed a CD and started scrubbing with medium to hard pressure for about 10 mins while I watched the Simpsons :D

I inspected the CD before I started and there were no marks. When I was done there were light marks in the CD. There weren't many but there were enough. This test was done without any soap (lubrication) and hard pressure. I don't press down at all when I actually wash.

I did this same thing some time ago when I first got my Microfiber mit from CMA. It did leave a few scratches on the CD but they were extremely fine and about 1/4 the amount the sponge left. The Microfiber mit though hold so much stuff in the mit. I could never get it clean. If I did the test today with my Microfiber mit, then it would fail because of so much stuff caught in the fibers. I've tried putting it through the wash machine, pressure washing it, hand massaging it, etc but it won't come clean.

I'll try to do the CD test again with the sponge tomorrow with some soap in the water before I start washing.

I plan on detailing my truck soon too (polish, glaze, wax) and then I'll just be using these sponges for washing so I'll see how long the cobweb swirls stay down. I can say using a cotton mit for the last 5 or so months has hardly produced any swirls on the paint.

Does anyone know a place that sells a good, plush, 100% cotton wash mit?

I've been using chenille mits from tacscar.com. I think he was selling 2 for 9 dollars or something at the time. I havn't had any problems with them and he says they're 100% cotton.

I have no reason not to believe Tim :D
