i got a dent in the drivers fender and i have no clue where it came from but it looks like the clear coat is starting to pull away from the base coat. do you think this will need to be repainted. i got a quote from a shop for 550 for dent removal and repaint. seems a little high if you ask me. what do you think? will the paint eventually start to flake? or can i just get the dent removed and save 400 bucks? its a 05 bmw m3 btw

What a bummer:angry An 05 M3 ?? I would have to fix it completely. It would be too depressing looking at it.

I got a little ding on my driver side door. When I say little, I mean little. I got quote to repair it for around 200-300!!! for a little a$$ ding. They said that in order for it to be repaired it would need to be dinged out which would cause the paint to crack and then to paint the whole door. CHIIIILLL!! I say to that! They said it wouldn't be possible to just paint that part because it wouldn't blend well...

Sounds like shopping around and keeping tabs of what each shop says will be the situation and checking back here will help you reach the best plan of action.

based on the pics and shops around here, thats like a 2 - 2.5 hour repair + paint. $550 is expensive.

guapsnaman, try this place.

The whole door will more than likely have to be repainted due to blending issues. If you do the whole door, then the match wont have to be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. If it is just spotted you would be able to see the problem in different lighting or shading.

My GF's front left fender was keyed at a supermarket and the whole fender was repainted. It is just the nature of the beast.

the door would not really need blend. the hood, possibly. even then, half paint with full clear. i usually allow for blend when damaged area is less than 18 inches from the adjacent panel.

it is possible for blend within panel on that fender depending on the body guy.

Take it to a good Paintless Dent Removal tech to see what he thinks. The clear might actually be OK. If it is, PDR is the answer.

OH NO...that's horrible to hear...your car is nearly new isn't it???...sorry about the fender man I feel your pain...same thing happened on my audi a couple years ago.

p.s. the dyno numbers over on the M3 forum are looking good!!!

haha i was going to throw one of the new kn intakes on it and redyno but now the dent has priority and funds are very low at this moment

I've had experience with a situation like this. you'd think a competent dent doctor could handle it but it turns out that the lip of the fender is double-walled....they could not reair it - - metal was too thick. Check out your car and see how thick the metal is at that point.

OTOH, they'll just repair the dent at the body shop and blend the area. If you take it to a good shop, you'll never see evidence of it when they're done.

I've got a two month old K&N typnoon (69 series) on my car if you're interested in a slightly used, now outdated intake for the M3...I feel stupid now for not being patient for the 57 or 63 or whatever they're calling it.

From the pic it doesn't seem to be creased, try going to a PDR shop, they can repair 90% of the dent and you won't be able to notice it as much.

This could be a possible PDR job. Find the best local guy around. Some one who understands knocking down crowns and waves. The hard part will be geting the body line back.

For the body shop I think the quote is fair. I do alot of work for a shop that the BMW center sends all of it's customers cars to. M3s are a comon sight always front end damage

This is a shot of a couple. It looks like 3 but the third one is a Mazada.

That looks repairable using Paintless Dent Repair. Here are some photos of much worse dents and they were all repaired. Some pictures include prices to give you an idea.
