Good scare flicks?

In the tradition of Holloween the wife and I were looking through our DVD collection and realized we really don't have much in the way of quality scare flicks.... Aside from some Micheal Moore Documentaries name some good scare flicks you guys have all seen. We need to get some more :D

Depends, what do you like? Blood and gore or stuff that messes with your head?

I like the stuff that messes with your head (like seven did) but good blood and gore is great as long as it's not cheesy. (like hellraiser and every nightmare on elmstreet past the first one)

You know back when the original Frankenstein came I believe people ran from the theater terrified.

Now days seeing people hacked to death and other gory scenes in movies is no big deal, It's much like real life in the city near me.

The Halloween movies are still one of the best imo. Young Frankenstein is one of my favs. lol

I like breaking out the old VHS Dracula, Wolfman, Invisible man and Frankenstein movies. The one's with Bela Lagosi, Lon Chaney Jr, Claude Rains, and Boris Karloff.

Yeah, I still have a VCR.. but it's combined with a HD/DVD player. lol

I tell ya some other movies that are a good watch around this time of the year.. Exorcist, Amityville horror, The Shining, Hellraiser,Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Salem's Lot.

Salem's Lot scared the crap out of me when I was a kid because my room looked a lot like the room in the movie, where the vampire tapped on the window.

It's no fun when people are tapping on your window when you're a kid and after watching this movie.

:hide:

LOL

The Creature from the Black Lagoon Legacy collection is very interesting. Obviously, compared to today's CG special effects, these films are not scary. However, watch the original films and then watch the documentary commentary on the same DVDs...huge insight to what was going on at the time of filming, including bloopers.

As an old guy, I find them very entertaining.

See what I mean? My pumpkin last year....

Some good ones, I also think Poltergeist is super creepy, especially is you read about the crazy stuff that happened while making the movie. I also really like the Blair Witch in the theater, but it isn't the same at home.

A pretty decent list:

Amazon.com: THE ESSENTIAL HORROR FILMS

I just watched" Drag me to hell". It's one of those creepy old lady ghost witch sort of movie. check it out.

After watching years of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 rip into the old cheesy horror films, I can't watch the new ones, either it's a gore fest or hard to follow with a political message thrown in. I guess that's why the "Scary Movie" films are so damn funny!

"Mess with your head" movies:

Strangers

Last House on the Left (new version)

The Hitcher (original with Rutger Hauer)

video from my first wedding

"blood and Gore" movies:

House of 1000 Corpses

Devils Rejects

Most recent Halloween (Rob Zombie)

New Friday the 13th was pretty good.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1st one and the most recent versions)
