Good preservative before installing chrome under hood pieces?

Couple of chromed bolt ons for the engine. I'm planning on cleaning up the engine area as much as possible before installing, but is there something I should put on these as a good preventative maintenance measure? Not so much to shine them up, but something that will protect it and make it easier to clean/polish later, avoid any spotting?

i don't know what the heat from the engine would do (and I know how much heat is generated by the SC's as I have an '89 of my own), but I'd suggest a good coat of a wax or polymer sealant. I'd suggest meguiars #26 wax or #20 polymer sealant (since that's what I've been using.. Of course I reconize other people's beliefs in other products, and I'd like to know what other's think as well.

btw, what kind of "goodies" are you putting into your SC?

Hey, great to hear from another SC guy!

I got the Blackfire system, would that be good to put on it? Haven't gotten to put it on the car yet, but maybe the weather will clear up. Would a chrome rim type polish be the way to go? I had a polished aluminum intake on the other vehicle, and it got pretty nasty looking, but it was a 4WD and got pretty nasty. Just don't want these to get dull looking with water spots or anything.

This is a Supercoupe Performance chrome air intake, Pro-M 75mm chrome MAF and 5% SC pulley (but not chrome). Did the exhaust already, but that's it so far. Are you on SCCOA?
