Well I am away from home at a holiday resort down south of Turkey. It is nice, warm sunny and just a couple of yards way from the sea and sand...

Since we sold our MPV, we drove all the 400 miles or so distance with my wife's Black Beauty. It is one nasty little beast. I never expected it to perform so well on a long run !!

Anyway to the story: I stopped for a refuel. Here in Turkey, those of you have visited know it; they wash your car when ever you stop for a refuelling, coffee break or on-the-run-shopping. The water is usually of good quality since Turkey is a land where water is abundant and at high quality.

Well the guy who did the job ruined my first few hours by slapping the brush. He did not much more than only a swirl on the hood.

I had no product with me but QD... So I went into the gas station' s shop. I could only find Turtle Wax Scratch and Swirl Remover. So I applied that. The swirl went away just like a dream...

So TW did a good job ! Well I guess I will keep the bottle... So OTC' s are not all that bad and I suppose I will start saving a couple of bucks by checking them out one by one...

Laters; I will enjoy some sean sun and sand before I care for more..

Hey you are most welcome !! Contact me and I can even join in ! :)

It is around 32 degrees centigrate right now, a relatively cool weather. I have the notebook on my lap (wireless hooked up to the desktop with ADSL) under the palm tree with an ice cold drink and enjoying the scene of my 4 year old daughter playing in her pool...

The car ? Naaw who cares about it ?? I only washed and detailed under the hood. I guess this car of my wife' s in particular is under some bad spell or some "ebony eye effect" any mishap you can imagine to ruin the job I did.

The lady at the mall, the garage valet dudes, the guy who washed it at the gas station and just yesterday evening two brats playing soccer... The boy kicked the ball and it landed right on top of the car. Well I had to use the TW Scratch & Swirl remover a bit. I also found a bottle of TW Platinum Precision wax at some local store here so I am relatively safe... I always have my good ol' Meg' s QD... :D

It will get much warmer tomorrow and I will drop the interior job I planned... It gets unrealistically hot inside and I dare not work in the car while it under the glasshouse effect (it' s a black car remember ?) and some 60 deg's centigrate...

Anyhow, I feel some of ya guys groaning with envy but eh... Eat your hearts out you... :D

I'm Serious. I'm gonna retire and open a detail shop as a hobby

you can be my first customer

Sounds like you need a good PDR (paintless dent removal) shop there too

My wife is from Istanbul, and her parents and sister still live there

Hehehe I'd rather do it myself... But thanks anyway...

I took some pics but I all of a sudden realised that I have those "spirit orbs" as some prefer to call them in the pics...

Also an abundance of winged tiny creatures act as models on the car and they are inevitable here...

(Well I could not afford photomodels so tiny bugs helped me for free. :D )

So you perhaps plan to move back to Turkey huh ? I' ll be delighted to meet you in person. Please let me know when you travel to Istanbul. I work at the airport...

Best regards

Nope way north at Edremit... I hate Bodrum... All those "intellectual weirdos" flood that place and it is way crouded...

Been there ??

haha. i'm going to be there in a couple of weeks. my girlfriend is turkish and we're going there for a trip. driving from bodrum to bursa.

I will let you know, probably in October, we will come out for 3 weeks.

We only fly Turkish Airlines out of New York, because its a direct flight

Hehehe TK002... Good choice. Although it' s like betraying my own co., Delta also flies...

Anyhow, I' ll be happy to meet you at my office and have a coffee or tea and chat a few about our mutual "disease" (as my wife calls it)

should be fun. i got a nice new camera for the trip. probably have to take some waffle weave towels to keep the windows clean. haha.

Hey Murat,

Sounds like you have a couple of opportunities to obtain "fixes" for your disease. Maybe these guys going over can bring you some detailing products from the States that you always wanted to try but can't get in Turkey! As long as they don't get arrested for carrying flammable substances on the airplane!!!

P.S. My wife's aunt is in Istanbul right now for some big conference.

That is wise advice !

I am in contact with David and we' re gonna see what we can do with him during his travels... If all fails, I will have to wait till summer is almost over and these folks show up...

:D

Definitely... However just curious: are you gonna transport your drive in too ??

I wouldn' t bother with a rented car...

Get plenty of bug removing stuff... You'll be in dire need of it once you start down the road !!

drive-in? i was considering taking a glass cleaner with me too but i use invisible glass in an aerosol can and i don't think i can carry that on a plane. i'm also stopping in france for a week and renting a car there. i guess i'll just bring some waffle weave window towels and use water to clean the glass. i can't stand driving with dirty windows. the paintwork of the car will just have to suffer its own fate. haha.

Excuse my dialect. I meant "will you bring your drive into Turkey as well?"

You can find Sonax and Meguiar's here but none of the sort of the fancy stuff you talk about... :(

ah. no, we'll rent a car in bodrum. should be a fun drive. i mean, as much fun as i can have in a ford fiesta. haha.

For the road conditions in Turkey (the heat the car has to cope with and all) I'd recommend a Fiat Stilo... Same rental price range but much better peformance.

Better yet you may elect to rent a Renault Megane which may be a couple of more Lira to rent daily... Much more power and torque. Ford Focus is the same...

Avoid Hyundai Accent, Fiat Sienna, Fiat Palio... They are no better than heaps of trash...

Eh, you will need a bottle of Sonax Bug & Tar remover. It is somewhere around $6 a bottle and works vey well... I doubt you can get it there at Bodrum but Wurth is a very good and popular brand here but not worth it since it is not your car...
