does anybody here use a quick detailer to remove wax? Does it improve the shine? If using an orbital or wheel to buff does the quick detailer give a better finish. If you use a qd to remove wax which is the best one to use? thanks
QD is designed not to remove wax but rather to prolong the waxes protection. To remove wax you can use a Dawn wash or a paint cleaner like PPCL or AIO.
I use QD to help remove wax residue from around emblems and such. I also do a QD wipe down after having removed the wax by hand to pick up any powder residue that may be sitting on the surface.
Where is the wax you are trying to remove? I find that on plastic molding and window molding you can take wax off my taking some peanut butter and warming it up in the microwave. Then just put it on the wax, let it sit for a minute, and then wash it off. It'll leave oil on whatever you use it on but it takes the wax off.
The original post is not too clear. To remove or buff out wax, you really don't need to use a quick detailer. You can use it however during your last wipe down just to assure that you buff out any light remaining powder that you may have left behind.
Is it ok to QD right after waxing, or will that remove the wax? I find that sometimes, I get streaks, hazing, or uneven wax coverage, so I use the QD and it appears to fix the problem right away. Am I actually removing the wax? It also makes the surface a lot smoother.
You can use a QD after you wax. I have even heard that if you get hazing you can let your car sit out in the sun to warm it up and then use a QD on it to remove the hazing. I haven't tried the sun thing out but I do use a QD after I wax.
I use Zaino's QD (Z-6) to remove wax from around emblems, etc. Put a heavy spray on the area, wait a few seconds and then, very gently scrub with a very used, soft toothbrush. As far as a general wax remover, I would be a little concerned if a QD would actually remove any normal coat of wax or polish. Seems to me that such a product would be extremely "counter-productive"!
Chuckmotor, feel free to use your quick detailer of choice. It shouldn't have the negative characteristic that you worry about. In fact a carnauba quick detailer helps rejuvenate your carnauba wax coat. It helps it last longer. Laters
One of my customers had me go over this beauty last week before he took it out to Good Guys show Friday morning. Ended up winning Best Muscle Car! Not sure how many cars were out there, but I'm willing to guess it was in the thousands!
This is an amazing car! I love the heck out of it! Offered the owner free details for life if he'd just sign the title over to me, but I don't think he's going for it
