ok i'm getting my car painted in about a week or so.

I'm just wondering whats the best for something like that.

I just want something gentle.

I used to use this Softwash Gel stuff,

advertising sounds like it's very gentle, but it comes in small containers..

I was thinking

mothers califonia gold vs meguiars gold class ??

currently i've got a jug of the meguiars

stuff, but which would be best??

thanks.

Gold Class is a bit on the aggressive side (as far as soaps go) IMO. I really don't think it makes any difference on new paint to tell you the truth though. But if you want something really gentle, I would have to recommend the TOL Bubble Bath wash. It was recommended by several members on here as a product that would not strip wax. I have found it to be a very nice wash all around. Lubricity could be a bit better probably but other than that it is one of my favorites.

I would probably use the Californie Gold over the Gold Class if it was between those two in your situation.

G'day, Meg's #00 wash in their professional line is a gentle but very good & underrated car wash! I tried it for the first time last weekend & wash very impressed with it. It's a bit more liquid in consistency than Gold Class, Softwash gel or NXT wash, but does a fine job of cleaning. I also like 1Z Perls but am not sure if it's as gentle, but it too is a fine wash. Just purchased Eagle One Wet on recommendation from this site & will give that a go tommorrow, if it stops raining that is!!!

I'd probably go with the #62 if you want to use a Meg's wash. IMO you don't have to worry any about the strength (paint is tough and you don't have to worry about stripping wax as you'll have to redo the glaze anyhow), but you do have to worry about lubricity- doh't want to mar the still-sorta-soft fresh paint.

I just use my Griot's Car Wash on fresh paint, even though I have some #62 on the shelf.

Put a glaze (Meg's calls it "pure polish") on the fresh paint after each time you wash it. I like #5, but #3/#81/#7 or step #2 of the Deep Crystal system will work fine too. Or 3M IHG or Mother's glaze.
