Good drying towel OTC?

Anything decent or should I just order a towel? I used to have Black Magic drying towel and I liked it but I lost it :( By the way don't have a Pepboys so limited to Walmart, K-mart advance and discount auto.

$8.99 at your local k-mart... :up

Viking drying towels are very nice, also Meguiars Water Magnets are decent. If you have a Target near you I highly recommend the Vroom drying towel, I prefer them to the Viking drying towels.

My favorite OTC combo has been the Absorber (blot method) and then wipe down with the Viking Drying Towel. The Viking towel is just an oversized detailing towel (tall nap on one side, shorter nap on other). I have not looked at the Target towels. Some drying towels are fluffy on both sides.

I never had any luck with the Meg's Water Magnet but I recently used Mothers unique foam core Waffle Weave (not cheap nor readily found OTC) and it worked better than anything I have used so far. It is so soft and was the first drying towel that did not "stick to the paint surface. Since has a form core, it does not sag like a normal towel so easy to place on paint and less likely to touch the ground.

the viking is better quality. it's softer, thicker, and has a satin edging...

true but the Vroom is still a very good drying towel and it cost a few $ less

(I have both and you can't go wrong with either, or the Mainstays WW )

for less then $20 you can try all three and see what you like

it's not like you can have too much MF

If you have a Walmart near by, the blue Microtex (Calderon Textiles) towel is excellent for the price. I would also swing by the kitchen section and pick up a couple of the WW kitchen towels... while somewhat thinner than your automotive grade WWs, you can't beat the price! If you're near a Target, the yellow Vroom drying towel is the exact same one as the blue Microtex one from Walmart.

Don't forget to check the corners of all your towels... clip off the hardened plastic (if any) before you use 'em!

Good luck,

Mike

I love this towel. I've tried a lot of towels and this one is the best yet. I can dry my whole car (Acura RSX) without wringing it out.

Yeah, can't go wrong with the Microtex. I've used them for a long time and they work very well and are nearly as plush/soft as the Viking towel.. a couple of bucks cheaper, too (at Walmart).

I bought one of the yellow Vroom drying towels at Target a few weeks ago. I’ve been using waffle-weave towels for drying for a couple of years, so this was a purely on-a-whim purchase. Having used it several times, all as the first-pass towel after ONR washes, I must say that the Vroom towel has been a pleasant surprise. I’ve been able to dry the whole car without even coming close to having to wring it out. (I’ve primarily employed the blotting technique, by the way.) I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.

(I’ve also been satisfied with the gray Vroom detailing towels; I think I have a dozen of them. I usually use my pricier, silk-edge towels on the paint, but I’ve used the Vrooms on the paint, too, without any apparent ill effects. When I do use a Vroom on the paint, I place my spread palm in the center of the towel so that I don’t exert any pressure on the bound edges.)

The Wal Mart WW towels are pretty nice but they are a little small. The Vroom towel is like $8 and it seems equal in size to 3 of the WM WW towels.

I don't doubt Vroom is made by Microtex but the Vroom drying towel seems a lot nicer than the Microtex towel.
