Hello, my name is Filthy Clean. I own a Blazer and a Lexus. I am really sick of reapplying wax, so I am going to put another layer of clear coat on my car. If anyone thinks this is a bad idea, please let me know thanks!

look at some of the coating threads

another coat of clear will just need to be waxed over if it doesn't crack and craze

Yep. Opti Coat or CQuarts coatings are exactly what your looking for. Adding more clear wont do anything like what you think it will do.

Adding more clear coat is going to be counter productive. You will still need to protect the clear coat that you apply (just like you wax to protect the clear coat you currently have).

Permanent or semi-permanent coatings (such as Opti-Coat or Gtechniq) are going to add valuable protection to the clear coat.

Welcome to a great Forum !

I have Opti-Guard on my daily driver Grand Cherokee for over a year and over 6,000 miles of highway driving in all kinds of good and bad weather.

It is the best thing I ever did to this vehicle and the 3 others I used to own.

It totally rejects much of the dust and dirt that used to be on the car all the time, up here in the rainy, Northwest.
My car is still really clean even after driving in the rain, because most of the dirt wont adhere like it used to.
When I do wash it, it is with a lot less frequency, and the dirt is so much easier to remove now.
It has a really great gloss and I occasionally will follow up with Optimum Instant Detailer/Gloss Enhancer, Blackfire Instant Detailer, or Chemical Guys Hybrid V.7, to give it a little more pop..

To respray more clear on your vehicle properly would require a huge amount of work = big $$$, and while it would be nice, it would still require the same amount of maintenance you are now doing, as has been so aptly stated above..

Good luck with this !

Well isn't spraying another layer of clear going to make my car look glossier? Isn't that what they do when they spray pearl paint? That Opti coat sounds like a good idea, maybe after I respray a clear coat I will put that on

First things first, welcome to AF!

The advice given here is sound. Your car likely came with a clear coat finish. It's plenty good to protect the base coat. You just need to protect it properly. Another coat of clear may or may not give you more gloss, that depends on the condition of your finish. It also comes with all the problems of a paint job. Dust in the paint, orange peel and so forth. The secret here is to get your existing clear polished and flat (no orange peel) then protect it. Opti-Coat is a good recommendation.
