good cheap car wash

i was wondering which cheap otc carwash is good? what i've seen around is the Blue Coral car wash, kit car wash, the turtle wax orange colored wash, the cherry wash at advance auto, meg's deep crystal car wash, and any other ones i haven't mentioned. which one is good? i use them as wheel wash most of the time and maybe to wash my dad's car since he doesn't care for it himself anyways. oh yeah let me emphasize cheap, low price for a big container. not NXT or E1 or gold class.

Meg's DC is pretty cheap. Do consider that most of the ones you get in big jugs for next to nothing are watered down - you'll need to use significantly more than the gel-like NXT. I'd suggest the NXT, even though I know you aren't necessarily for it. Its only 5 bucks for half a gallon, and you can dilute that down to about 60 washes worth. That, or buy a gallon of Meg's Hyper Soap, its 20 bucks but you can get 500 washes out of it (using a 2.5 gal single bucket).

i know the cheap stuff is watered down but i only use a gallon of water at most to clean four wheels so the soap is there to provide a bit of lubrication between the brush and the wheel cover or wheel. i use the nxt for washing the body of the cars but lately they don't have it at my wal mart and i might run out of it in a few washes. oh yeah is there anything store bought that is similar to poorboys waterless wash? i got a small bottle of it and i think i fell in love but i hate mail ordering and it seems a bit pricey. thanks guys

I just get what's cheap at Costco in the gallon size, lasts me a year. Also consider what profesional detailers use like Meguiars Hyperwash since it dilutes 400:1 so you don't have to use as much as if you got the cheap stuff. Detailers go for what works and what's cheap to use, not just cheap to buy, I tend to just get what's cheap to buy as long as it has some brand name I trust like Eagle, Megs, 3M. Don't use dish washing soap like Dawn, it dries out the paint and strips the wax.

Unfortuneatly, PB's S+W is a pretty special product. DP makes a pretty good imitation (I;m sure they see it differently :)), but they're mail order too. S+W is not unreasonable in the gallon sizes, I think the gallon I bought cost me around 30 bucks, and its damn near the best 30 bucks I ever spent.

The reason similar products are not sold in stores - most people are incapable of using them in a manner that won't mar the hell out of the paint. Most cars take pretty bad abuse being hand washed (look at the "Car Washing Horror Stories" thread). Now take that grimy rag that alot of guys use, and reduce the lubrication by one step further. These products would then get a bad name pretty quickly, and it would soon become unprofitable to sell them. And hey, at the end of the day, automotive product companies aren't in it for good will :).
