good black matte exterior plastic molding dressing/protectant?

303 Aerospace protectant works well on my Saab. It's an 04 9-3 and has tons of that black textured plastic all over it. Also works great on window seals and weatherstripping. However, I do not use it on the matte painted surfaces between the door windows (along the B-Pillar). I'll use a QD on that to clean it up.

I am looking for a good dressing or protectant for black plastic molding that is matte finished. This includes trim around windshield and the like.

Also, these BMW vertical door pieces in picture:

Thanks in advance for product recommendations!

That particular trim looks best polished and waxed, or you can use an AIO product(AIO, ColorX, #66, OEM one step, #215, etc.)

Owning a honda cr-v, I have pleanty of exterior trim to deal with. You might want to try Zaino z16, or 1z Vinyl-Rubber Care - "Tiefenpfleger". As a "test" I have mothers' protectant and 1z on the trim, and I will see how they look after a few weeks and washes. It seems like the 1z may hold up better, but it is too close to call now. the z16 is marketed for tires, but there is a post that says it is good for trim also. It would not surprise me if z16 and 1z are the same, and the two companies have a deal - one will market the product for tires, and one will market it for trim.

I would go with Klasse AIO followed by Zaino Z2 Pro.

That's similar to what I like todo, I like to treat these sufraces the same as my paint. Unless it just doesn't work out (this does happen occasionally) I usually use the Klasse twins. I'm currently doing this on the MPV's black plastic and I did it on the WRX's black plastic before that.

I don't like ERV dressings for this sort of thing if I can avoid them, they tend to run in the rain, wipe off, and otherwise have issues. But sometimes you just have to use the dressings.

I dunno just what I'm gonna use on my M3's door pillars (same as what's in the pic), we'll see when I finally get it back from my mechanic. I'd like to use the "treat it like paint" approach, but that won't always work especially if such surfaces are really oxidized. When that's the case, I like Autoglym's Bumper Care. I'm using it on the MPV's satin black wiper arms; they just don't turn out right with an AIO type approach :nxweiss The Bumper Care lasts for a number of washes and it doesn't run off onto the paint during rain/washes. Cleans pretty well too.

I've used the Z-16 on such stuff before and it's not bad, but it runs in the rain too much for me.

the z16 is well liked for tires. It probably sticks to rubber better than to trim. You should try the 1z product. I have it on my front bumper, which is large on a cr-v. After three washes and about three weeks, it still looks pretty good (at least to me).

If you put polish (klasse) and then sealants on the trim, won't that make the trim shinny?

Not really. Using AIO then SG makes it look the way it does when new, or rather, it seems to preserve the condition it's currently in. The AIO doesn't really shine it up more, just cleans it and removes any *light* oxidation damage. The SG just sorta keeps it looking that way. It sure doesn't make it look weird in any respect if that's what you're concerned about. Mine just has the "new vehicle satin look".

I like a Matte finish too.

Like the guy above I only use 1Z cockpit premium to srtip pevious layers of dressing and to clean dust.

Then I follow up with 1Z Rubber and Vinyl to protect.

If you don't live in California use Klasse VLRP. for the rest us Non-Californians Klasse has kept its original VLRP formula which is fantastic on black plastic. It goes on like baby oil and once it dries it buffs off to a nice warm matte glow. Apply with MF applicator.

openroadmotoring.com sells 1Z with VERY quick delivery and the VLRP is available from all the high end products places that carry Klasse, but you have to ask for the Non-California formula.
