I've just ordered my PC 7424 along with a 6" counter weight. I will also be ordering the pad kit from CMA in a couple of minutes. Here's my list of things to do in order with the new PC.

1. Dawn Wash

2. Clay Bar w/ Clay Magic and QD as a lube

3. Dawn Wash

4. 3M-SMR (using CMA's Yellow pad)

5. BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish (using CMA's White pad)

6. BLACKFIRE All Finish Paint Protection (using CMA's Grey pad)

How does this procedure sound and do you think it should offer me a good shine if done correctly? Thanks

-Brian(who has to go order his CMA pad kit now)

BTW: I ordered my PC from coastal tool for 126.50 shipped and it included their "Bonus Kit" which consists of a 6" Hook & Loop Contour Pad and a 6" Counter weight.:xyxthumbs

You need to move your second Dawn wash so that it follows your application of SMR. Also, your first Dawn wash can be any proper car shampoo, Dawn isn't necessary here.

OTT, your right on track. Take some pics for us! :up

 Laynlow-

Why dawn wash after SMR application? Is this really necessary?

thx

Because a polymer sealent is going to be used, the oils and fillers left by the SMR should be removed. A dawn wash will accomplish this.

:nixweiss Hmmm, is a dawn wash necessary between an SMR and #7 then #26 application?

If not, what is the likely result of NOT doing so?

thx

In that case, no. #7 is a polish just like the SMR is a polish. The main difference between the two is the fact that SMR has abrasives to remove swirls, #7 does not. Waxes are made to seal in polishes, and do not have a problem with the oils left by a polish. In a nutshell, polishes and waxes work as a team to protect and make the paint look good.

Polymers on the other hand, do both jobs on their own, and they need to bond to the paint to work properly. Any oils left on the paint will interfere with their ability to do so.

That confused me a little. Will using #7 be a bad idea before Medallion PPP or #20? These are polymers so would they bond ok? Or is it not the same kind of polymer as Blackfire or Klasse? Thanks!

Not sure, but I think it would be a bad idea. #7 is a glaze type polish and will prohibit the bonding of polymer sealants

to paint.

#7 works great with Medallion PPP. I used to do that combo myself. Medallion PPP is not a true polymer sealant. It does contain wax. Their description is a bit vague and misleading, but I have used it myself and consulted with Meguiars also. I can say with complete confidence it works well with #7 or SMR. As for their #20, that is one animal I have not used. I would guess that it would work with their #7 as well because it is part of their product system, but I would suggest you call their 800 number to confirm.

I would not place #20 in the same class as any of the biggie polymers used around here, but I have been told it is a good product nonetheless.

Edit: Now that I look, #20 contains silicones and waxes, so it is not a true polymer either.
