LSP means "last step product" like waxes or sealants. Look for the "secret decoder ring" it should tell you more about these types of acronyms.

To the OP, I would slab some 845 on there and top with Aquawax for sure. It should be a perfect combo.

Good durability (even better with AW) and very nice beading. 845 is better on lighter colors but it shouldn't matter on a long trip so much. You car will get dirty, quick.

Collinite 845 or #16 would be my pick. Both seem bullet proof. Yesterday I just washed my daughters car. It was the first wash since I put on 845 on Thanksgiving Day. The car lives in Maryland and is never garaged. I was surprised the finish still looked good and would still bead.

Just cover your whole front end in 3M tape. I've seen it done before for long trips. Put it on the front of your side mirrors too. You'll look rediculous, but you'll have no chips or scratches when you get where you're going. It comes off clean after wards.

Good advice above about the blue tape - though it may look a little funny, it doesn't really matter which LSP you use when your front end is COVERED in bugs. I just drove from San Diego to Dallas - picked up lots of bugs and a few rock chips on the way. I could have avoided all of that if I'd gone with my original plan of painter's tape on the front bumper and leading edge of the hood and mirrors.

Sorry about jacking the thread here, but I wonder if 3M couldn't put the same adhesive on a clear tape? I'm sitting here with a roll of their 2" packing tape in front of me, and it would be perfect it it had a long term release adhesive...

I'd go with #21 topped with #16 or 845 (They have similar durability in my experience, I think #16 looks better).

That's actually somewhat common; even more so with track racers. :dance

Oddly enough, #16 seems to hold up better on my wife's A8 than does 845, at least when she takes it on trips :nixweiss I put on a fresh coat of #16 and she'll run it through a touchless while on the road. When she gets back it always cleans up just fine. Just did this last month and the #16 is still doing great, even where I used Sonus green to remove some bugs and FWIW her trips are also in the >1000 mile range.

Guess it's more of my Autopian Heresy, but no way would I want to take a 1500 mile trip with my vehicle covered in tape, I'd rather get stonechips.

Use tape... :hairpull

I have used the blue tape for really long trips, 1800klms plus.

I do cheat a little, I lay the tape on an old hood & spray it silver (my car is silver) with a cheap $1.50 can of paint!!!

After it dries I put it on the front bumper, etc...

It doesn't look nearly as weird as the blue tape on its own. Just like the car is in need of repairs... :chuckle:

I would go with the 845, maybe 2 coats. That stuff seems to hold up to pretty much anything you can throw at it. Not familiar with #16.
