Going back to work

What do you guys do about the non 100% cotton edges on your cotton towels that you use on your cars paint? Folding them over is a major PIA but it seems to me that cutting them off would cause the towels to fall apart? Any suggestions?

Some of the guys on this forum use towels that have had that non 100% cotton edging removed/cut off and serged with 100% cotton thread to keep it from fraying. This allows them to buy big bath towels/sheets and turn them into 4 smaller, managable towels for buffing. The most common towles to have this done FieldCrest Charisma Selects, Charismas, and Royal Velvets. Ask around locally for soemone who serges towels.

I still use the towels folded up so the edges don't touch, only for dry'ing and removing wax. For removing Klasse, cleaning/dusting dashes I use MF towels.

My 2 cents,

Jason

01WS6,

Most of the Zaino distributors offer towel-serging services. I think they charge by the inch, but I forgot what the rate was. In any event, it was only a few dollars per towel. A little more if you want a bath towel cut and serged into four small towels.

I bought my wife a serger for Christmas. She wanted it to use in making these really cool, one-of-a-kind polar fleece hats she designs and sells. I, of course, thought it would be perfect for use on the towels I cut up for detailing. Talk about a win-win situation.:D

Well, after 8 months of being out of work, it looks like I will finally be going back to work. I have been in the Audio/Video industry for some time, and due to the bad economy and the housing market drying up, the AV industry has really taken a beating. One of my past employers broke off from his old partner and started a new Rep. firm and wants me to work for him. Unfortunately, he won't be able to pay me a salary, but will pay commission and all of my expenses. This is actually a very good thing. Because I will not be a salaried employee, and will be working as a consultant, I will still be able to do the detailing work when it presents itself. This just might be the best of both worlds for me.
Thanks for listening everyone!!

Barry !

This is great news for you and yours !!! I am so happy for you guys !!!

Yes, Consulting is pretty much always going to pay better, but you dont normally get Health Benefits, but if you already have them through your Spouse's work, then its not too big a deal !

Great, great, news !! I just know that your Career path is going to take off again - everyone, wants to be able to assemble "teams", etc., together and communicate with others, all at once, and not have to pay such huge $ to fly and stay in hotels, lose time travelling, etc..

You alone, mi amigo, have been one of the greatest contributors to this Forum since you first came on,( and I can remember when you did), and I will always be grateful for that.

Hope you have time to check in with us from time to time, and let us know how you are coming along.

Best,
DanF

Benefits are not a concern of mine. My wife's company offers excellent benefits.
I have loved contributing to this forum, and that will never change. As I said, I will have time to still do detailing, and I will always be on the forum here.
You always seem to have the words that everyone here needs to hear, and I thank you for that.

Congrats Barry.

Glad to see someone such as yourself get back on your feet during this **** economy.

Really good news that I am happy to hear.

As Chad said earlier.. another Beemer needs to show up.. maybe a 5-series this time since you are 'consulting' :cornut:

I would imagine that Barry is going to hold off on another BMW for a little while.

After all, he has a brand new Toyota.
