Go to pads?

Looking to place another order of some pads... What are your go to pads you always use??

I have MF cutting pads for heavy correction

Orange for correction via foam

White for swirl mark removers

Black for sealants

Example:black, blue, red pads from LC CCS all have no cutting power. Do you really need all 3 of these? Or will one handle it all?

Same with white vs green for LC CCS.

I have a variety of all the pads would love to consolidate down to just mf pads for cutting, a SWirl remover pad, and a sealant, polish, lsp pad. Is this possible?

Those are still perfectly fine IMO. If, for some reason, your situation results in them *not* being OK, well...you'll know when things go haywire. But I wouldn't go looking for problems you don't have ;) Note that vendors just love it when people do that!

People working problematic paints probably have some perfectly valid reasons for having/using/choosing amongst all those pads. I myself don't.

I *DO* thing everybody, myself included (and I will some day) oughta try the LC Gold LSPing pad. Enough people whose opinions I respect say that it really is all that, so....OK.

Unless you have a reason to want/need something other than what you currently have.....

Sure, well...depending on your paint and what your goals are.

Back in the day, I got by just fine with my Cyclo using *ONLY* their green polishing pads. Yep, used them for waxing too. They didn't cut well enough for efficient, or sometimes even effective, correction, and they didn't gloss out the way I'd probably want today, but I still did OK and it's not like my cars looked bad.

Ditto for the orange polishing pad that Griot's sells. Unless you have soft paint, you can do most anything with that pad, incredibly versatile.

In problematic situations, don't underthink it; in normal situations, don't overthink it. If you're satisfied, then all is well.

Does a mf cutting pad replace a foam cutting pad?

For me they do. I haven't used a foam pad for cutting but a couple times since I started using mf. IMO they cut more efficiently, use less product and finish better than foam.

My go to pads are Meg's MF cutting discs, LC orange and white for light cutting and polishing and LC black for LSP. Those are the pads I reach for first and may switch to something else if needed, but pretty rarely. I always have a wide variety of pads since different paint reacts differently, but *right now*, those are my favorites for a lot of jobs, but always testing out others as well so that may change at some point.

I'm also loving the CarPro Cool Pad Hybrid and Cool Wool pads on very hard paints.

Perfect. I think I am in a best case situation then!

I have just ordered/received in a large amount of the MF Cutting Pads

I have stocked up on white for my light cutting

and black/blue/red is what I use for my finishes

Thanks so much for all the help!!! Love this place

One thing I've noticed with Buff & Shine red pads (don't know if this applys to LC) is that the pad is very soft, but very dense so LSPs tend to stay on the surface and not get absorbed by the pad.

I personally use Tuf Buf black wool pads and MF cutting pads for cutting depending on the paint and Buff-N-Shine foam pads for finishing and/or wax application.

I use 3 pads, and only 3 pads.

MF Cutting Disc w/ - M105, HD Uno, D300, M205, HD Polish, Poli-Seal - In that order of how aggressive I want my cutting and how much time I am being paid to detail the car.

Black Pad w/ - M205, HD Polish, Poli-Seal - For quick clean ups and/or final polishing (I have been testing with MF Polishing Pads with success)

Gold Pad - LSP or "jeweling" with HD Polish for the difficult paints. Never thought of this combo until I had my first Jet Black truck and not any other combo worked.

I pretty much strictly use MF Pads because they cut better, finish better and are far easier to clean. My Gold Pad rarely gets cleaned, so I don't really care that foam pads are harder to clean. I actually bought a pad cleaner, and now that I'm only using MF pads, I haven't used it in months. I just throw the pads in the washer with the towels. I use the same LSP (Power Lock) on the gold pad and keep it in a sealed baggie (don't ask me why I do this...or if there's a benefit, I don't know). But, that's mainly because I use Opti-Seal for LSP nowadays.

Quenga- Interesting that you can go from an aggressive combo involving M105 right to a black pad, I can hardly ever do that

And you're reminding me that I really do need to try the LC gold pad sometime!

M105 and D300 have become my finishing polishes - yeah really! Go find that Todd Helme article about finishing with M105, he explains it 1K times better than I could. In the KISS principle, I'm getting rid of a bunch of polishes/compounds and sticking with a few basic ones. Lately, M101,105 and D300 get used 99% of the time. I'm not saying that other prodducts aren't as good or maybe better? I've just reached the point where I'm comfortable with these and I know they will work on the vehicles I do. Besides, I need the shelf space for my useless, overpriced, carnuba wax collection.

JuneBug- I've discussed finishing with M105 with a few people, but I just can't get it to work for me. Sometimes it looks OK....until I hit it with the SunGun in a dark room.

I love buff and shine pads, but i have to be honest, since trying the Scholl Concepts Orange and Black SAndwich Waffle Pads, i cant think of anything ive used that ive liked so much.
