After showing my client an example of the hydrophobic and contaminant release properties of Opti-Coat Pro, he was hooked and wanted it immediately. He had recently bought a new truck and wanted the best protection possible. Long Island can have very rough winters and he wanted to be able to easily clean his truck. We went on to schedule a light correction and Opti-Coat Pro detail.
The truck was brand new and after being washed, deironized with Iron-X (thanks Corey!), and then clay barred I noticed only minimal scratches and swirling. I even did a full 90% IPA wipedown BEFORE correction to make sure nothing was hiding or filling any scratches. It is not often you find a car in such great condition. I went ahead of prepped with Optimum Primer and a green pad on my Rupes. As you can see under the halogen lighting, no imperfections! This always makes me very happy. I also used a Brinkmann halogen swirl finder & Coast LED light and found no imperfections.
After finishing the priming process, I went onto perform one more IPA wipedown to ensure no residual oils are left behind. It is crucial for the surface to be perfectly sterile for Opti-Coat Pro to fully bond and cure.
Now I used to simply use generic yellow foam applicators while applying Opti-Coat Pro. The technique works fine but is generally wasteful and applies way too much product in the first few passes. So I went on to use the technique commonly used with other coatings. I found that I prefer using foam blocks and microfiber towels to apply the coating. It helps yield a very level coating. The entire vehicle was coated, including the glass and the wheels.
And here is the final product. A fully protected and Opti-Coat warrantied vehicle. No more waxing or sealing ever again as this new truck has been permanently coated. Very nice truck might I add and the pearl white is gorgeous in direct sun. Don't mind me if I am overly happy about this detail, it is not every day I get to work on a car with minimal swirling.
