GM clear advice

Ok, so I hope this works, I've tried to post a 1000 times now.

I've got a 99 grand prix that has some swirling I want to get out. I bought some optimum last year and I sat there all day with it and it didn't do hardly anything. It was the optimum polish. After about 10 minutes of sitting in one spot I removed about half of the swirling at best. The long work in time just isn't something I like so I figured I'd go with Menzerna.

Right now I've got IP and FPII in my shopping cart. First of all, I'm guessing IP would be better than SIP for me as the swirls aren't too bad and I don't have a ceramic clear coat?

Also, FPII has the finest cut, but is it too fine for after IP (or SIP if you guys tell me that's better)?

Thanks!

FPII works pretty well on GP clear - it's what I used on mine for years. As for the IP/SIP, go with IP. It's much cheaper and will work just as well in your application.

Is the spoiler and front bumper shot up on your GTP? I've got a 1997 and those two areas are really going out on me.

Thanks for the advice! Luckily my spoiler is no problem, just swirled and keyed (didn't press hard at all) but the bumper isn't so hot. It's had a lot of bugs and rocks in its day lol.

PC. I've got orange, green, blue, and white. You're talking edge colors right? I think they are different from LC.

I used optimum hyper compound/ optimum polish combination to tackle the hard clear on my 96 Chevy Impala SS. I'm almost puttin my whole weight on the udm to get rid of some scratches and swirls on this car. I'm taking multiple passes spread over a long time period to break down the optimum mixture. I've been using the yellow edge pad for the compounding and then moving on to the orange edge pad for final polishing. I might try out the edge blue pad for final polishing before I put on the Danase wet glaze and Collinite 476S. If you got the rock hard gm clear that I've got, you might want to get the yellow edge pad to help reduce your time of polishing. I spent 3 hours on saturday just removing the swirls from the hood. I've gotten better with experience and pad choice and am down to doing one side of the car in around a hour and half. My car has never been polished since new and definately needed it. I have a honda minivan and the clear is nowhere near as hard. I just put the udm on it with the orange pad and polish and it just went throught the swirls like butter.

Actually I do have the yellow one, I forgot about that. I've got the autogeek kit. Sounds like some of GM's paint is pretty insane lol. Probably not compared to audi I imagine though.
