An expensive but good tool to have when polishing cars is a glossmeter. They are by no means cheap, but you can use it to find out which products produce the best light refraction. A good one is anywhere from 2-3 grand. Its an expensive item, but well worth the results.

no, You can do a before and after with polishing. It measures the amount of light refelecting off of the surface by polishing it. In other words, it measures the gloss after polishing.
 
I already own a pair of Mark II Eyeball Meters. :2thumbs:



I don't need a $1500, advanced algorithm, plasticy, LCD to tell me when the paint is glossy! :har:
 
I guess it give a more "concrete" evidence to your customer that your paint jumps from a 60 to a 99 on the glossmeter. Some people prefer seeing concrete, measurable evidence than just "yes, its shiner than before".
 
This is definately for a pro or for research use. That's a lot of money to spend, but thanks for the insight Eric. I always thought companies claiming gloss ratings were eyeballing it.
