Glazes

What glazes have people tried and liked?

I'm familiar with 3m's Hand Glaze but have used it and don't really like it.

I've read cvcaelen's experience w/ 3m's finishing glaze and that makes me what to try it. I need to order some. Does anyone know a cheap place to order a bottle of it?

What other glazes are on the market? I would like to be real glazes. i.e. they are meant to add brillance to the finish and hid imperfections. Don't really want them to have abrasives.

#7 is great. It adds a lot of gloss. Sometimes it can be hard to buff off, but is otherwise pretty easy to use. It hides swirls like a champ. I think mainly it's when I use too much that it's hard to buff.

What is the durability like?

I used to use One Grand Omega Glaze and absolutely loved it. With a coat of Blitz on top it was a terrific combo. I can only imagine what Omega Glaze and Souveran looks like.

2days with out a wax above it, maybee less if its real hot or bright sunshine, i used it on my black 4runner and toped it with mothers , lasted about 2-3 weeks. but i think it was b/c the mothers was gone and the #7 evaporated i think under some 26 or klasse it would last as long as the wax

I tried it under liquid #26 and it seemed to last as long as the wax.

I found that taking it off was easiest with two separate MFs.

And the stuff was amazing looking. :up

TAxlady, are you saying that the glaze lasted as long as #26? If so that is great.

NYREP1, I thought that AIO would remove it somewhat?

I like Mother's Sealer/Glaze the best. I've tried 3M IHG, Meguiar's Hand Polish & Meguiar's #7....if anyone is discerning enough to notice a difference in the shine between any of these products, my hat truly goes off to them. While they all produce a fantastic shine, I like Mother's the best because it's the easiest to use.....by far. The stuff wipes almost as easily as P21S.

Another vote for Mother's. I like the shine on #7, but it seems hit and miss to not have streaks. Mother's is much easier to use. As a matter of fact, I am going to go back to it, even though I have a full bottle of #7. I just find that I am reluctant to use it because I am worried about streaking, particularly on dark cars.

ive used the mother also, and its much easier to use, and just as reflective but did not seem to hide the swirls as good to me, but this was before my autopia days. i was still obsesive but did not have as high or exacting standards

ok, this weekend i will do a 50/50 split on my trunk lid, as a comparison. will upload photos and experience re. ease. mothers is sounding good, though i've been a #9er.

kinda a side topic, but is there any need to use a glaze after doing 3M SMR?
Yes, definitely. A swirl remover is kinda between pure abrasives and glazes, but still won't glaze as well as the real thing.

Case in point, I used 3M SMR over a friend's black car this summer. Because the swirls were so severe and I was doing this by hand, I didn't get anywhere and just decided to just glaze it, wax it, and call it a day. After SMRing I couldn't see a very significant improvement. Then I just gently applied a thin coat of Mothers Sealer and Glaze over the car and buffed it out. We both stood back and said "Wow...." The Mothers glaze didn't hide the horrible swirls much, but it really really made the car look much wetter and blacker than before. One coat of wax later and I was done. I haven't used other glazes, but the Mothers was definitely easy to use and I'd say it worked well. :xyxthumbs

I see.... part of me just wants to follow up with Zymol HD Cleanse after 3M SMR and see how that works, because I've noticed when using Zymol wax, it applies better if you have HD-Cleanse on the surface.

Now, I did some reading on Megiuars #3 Machine Glaze and #7 Show Car Glaze and I can't see how they are different at all. And then there is 3M IHG which I assume does the same thing either.

Why two different choices from Meguiars?

Sorry for trolling your thread, but I assume it will be valuable information for everyone.

The 3M Perfect-It III Finishing Glase that cvcaelen had success with is apparently new on the market according to the 3M website. 3M indicates that it's easy to remove. The following is a blurb off 3M's website:

3M Perfect-It III Finishing Glaze 05941

New final glaze that provides durable, silicone-free protection.

This new glaze can be applied by hand or, to increase productivity, can be applied with a DA using the 3Mâ„¢ Perfect-Itâ„¢ Foam DA Glazing Pad, part number 05729. The easy to remove formula allows the user to protect the painted surface with a durable, high gloss finish in half the time.

Sounds good?:nixweiss Think I'll try it. If the temperature gets above freezing, if I can find a warm place, if it stops sleeting; maybe it'll be awhile.

Get a chance to try that out? I've been looking for that stuff for quite some time.

Do you know if it is fresh paint safe? Seems to be a better alternative than IHG.

Add me to the Mother's S&G List... I love this stuff... while I like IHG as well, it is quite a workout to use on a relatively large car... Let alone a surface that's not previously clayed/cleaned well... I've never had smears with S&G...
